Hello, newbie here :), upgrading from "gaming" laptop" I'm returning~

1) about 2k including mouse and keyboard

2) Hoping to run games like BF3 and FFXIV on high settings

3) Mostly gaming, some basic school related work, and lots of movies :D

I can live without some things aslong as I can upgrade them in the future, really liking the gtx 560-Ti.

here's one build I've been looking at, priced at about 1848, accessories included; if you can find a way to fit a 2600k in there I'll give you a hug :D

for that res and max settings in games like metro and bf3 you gonna want sli 570 at your budget best you can do at this time is go single 570 but with dual sli ability, so that you can add another 570 in a few months and ssd too.

you also should go with the 2600k for future performance, everything is moving toward multi core/thread support.

all of that will put us around $2100.

I thought single card configurations were best? I take it BF3 can use sli, but what about the other games that can't use it, can you change the settings or will the application simply ignore one of the cards?
Also, would you say buying here for that price is worth it? Was nice to see an online shop that has a money back guartentee xD exchange only scared me away from the others

I bought the pc you see in my sig from here, and that is why I'm here helping people, cause I like this builder.

single configuration is best when it gives you what you need, to max out bf3 and games like it, single card is not gonna give it to you.

you can enable and disable sli simply by going to nvidia control panel and enabling or disabling it there.

for games that don't utilize it correctly, its best for it to be disabled.

Cool, thanks for the concise answers :)
I do have a few more though xD.  what do you think of the mobo and power supply in that configuration? is the cooling adequate? aaand how is their upgrade service?  Sorry that I'm pumping you for information XD

Edit: specificaly with the mobo, will it support future generations of cards?
last question(I think), If upgrading the graphic card is easier than doing the same with the cpu, could I keep the 560-ti for now and get the 2600k to cut cost a bit?

that config you have needs to change, and like I said, to give you the reliable parts and ability to go sli, its gonna be around $2100.

your cpu/psu/gpu/ram/oc all need to be changed. for monitor and keyboard look at newegg or other places and see if you can get a better price.

that means you mobo and cpu cooling is good.

as long as future cards don't need more then x8 lanes this platform is fine.

ask as many questions as you like.

upgrade service IMHO is expensive, due to shipping and price of parts, depending on what you want to upgrade, most of it you can do yourself, hdd/ssd/ram/gpu, these are very easy to change/upgrade, we can help you if you need it.

Thanks.  what would you suggest I switch the psu, ram, and oc to?
I was actually thinking about making my own pc, but I don't have enough experince(none xD) , but I was wondering if I could buy the case, psu and cpu here, and simply upgrade the easier bit myself for a bit less? viable you think?

if you upgrade psu and cpu and case, that means you have to upgrade mobo and ram, thats pretty much a new pc, when you build a pc, you build it so that you can upgrade gpus and etc, rarely can you upgrade cpu anymore.

for your res if you want a system that can do sli but has one gpu now you are looking at this:

Here you go Ticket# 607918 --- $2,153 (To see this build click here)

oh no, I wouldn't upgrade the case, pcu, psu or mobo. I'd get those here, and put in the parts that are supposed to be easier in myself.  I'm not even sure if the price difference would be that good though.  I'd like to build it, but if I didn't I would definately buy here. As is though, mobo and cpu installation seem pretty daunting.

the only other parts you would put in yourself would be gpu, ssd, which really is not worth the price difference, but at your budget you can't have teh second gpu and ssd.
