So, my (HP) home desktop computer is starting to have weird freezing problems and USB ports randomly cutting out, so I'm moving my upgrade schedule forward from February-April 2012 to "as soon as possible".
Basically, here's my requirements: Budget: $1500-2000 including shipping. Closer to $1500 is better. Usage: Gaming, Development w/ Visual Studio or Eclipse (but is not my main dev machine) SLI: No Monitor resolution: 1920x1200 Sound: Analog 5.1 system (i.e. 3 audio connectors) My current computer has 1TB external store and 700GB of internal storage. The 1TB will not change, but the 2x300GB will not be coming over (and are nearly full, so space upgrade is required). Based on the above requirements and recommendations I've heard so far, the system I'm looking at is build number 567100. Does anyone suggest any changes to it? Sadly, due to budget issues, I nixed the SSD. Eclipse is like Photoshop right? I'm sure 8gb should be sufficient/more-than-enough for that. Overall the build looks solid. DST will come on here and say that 800GS is a bad PSU, but regardless it still has a 3 year warranty on it, and has some good reviews on websites.

Change build to the one below, the psu has good reviews and bad reviews, and also on other forums you will see problems with the psu, below is my post on it:
http://www.digitalstormonline.com/forums/forum_posts.asp?TID=14806&PN=1 Be carfull who you listen to, they are not gonna warranty your psu, they don't care if your psu goes bad after a year or 3 years, and the problems you have to go thru. I'm coming from a reliability point of view in teh long run, and to me 5 year manufacturer warranty tells a lot about what the manufacturer thinks about the reliability of that product. think about this, the corsair 750 tx had a 5 year warranty, the corsair 750 hx has a 7 year warranty, the corsair 800 gs has a 3 year warranty. That should tell you all you need to know IMHO, but last think about this: the price difference between the 800gs with 3 year warranty and 750w hx 7 year warranty is $10. 750HX 7 year warranty $139 800gs 3 year warranty $129 so long story short you can listen to others and go with 800gs, and if the psu goes bad in 4 years maybe they will come and pay to replace it for you, or you can ask DS for the 750hx and enjoy 7 years of warranty right from corsair themselves. I of course recommend what I would do, which is go with 750hX. having said that I give the build below but I didn't touch the psu as I can't recommend what I won't use for myself/friends/family: Here you go Ticket# 567199 --- $1796 (To see this build click here) Copy of Specifications: Chassis Model: Special Deal Hot Seller - Cooler Master HAF 922 Exterior Finish: - Standard Factory Finish Trim Accents: - Standard Factory Finish Processor: Intel Core i7 2600K 3.40GHz (Unlocked CPU for Extreme Overclocking) (Quad Core) Motherboard: ASUS P8P67 (Intel P67 Chipset) (New B3 Revision) (Does Not Support SLI) System Memory: 8GB DDR3 1600MHz Digital Storm Certified Performance Series (Highly Recommended) (Hand Tested) Power Supply: 500W Digital Storm Certified Expansion Bay: - No Thanks Hard Drive Set 1: Operating System: 1x (1TB Western Digital Caviar (7200 RPM) (64MB Cache) (Model: Black Edition) Set 1 Raid Options: - No Thanks Hard Drive Set 2: Multimedia\Data: - No Thanks Hard Drive Set 3: Backup\Misc.: - No Thanks Optical Drive 1: DVD-R/RW/CD-R/RW (DVD Writer 24x / CD-Writer 48x) Optical Drive 2: - No Thanks Internet Access: High Speed Network Port (Supports High-Speed Cable / DSL / Network Connections) Video Card: 1x NVIDIA GeForce GTX 570 1.2GB (Includes PhysX Technology) Add-on Card: - No Thanks Sound Card: Integrated Motherboard Audio Extreme Cooling: AIR: Stage 2: Corsair A70 Dual 120mm Fans High Performance Cooler H20 Tube Color:- Not Applicable, I do not have a FrostChill or Sub-Zero LCS Cooling System Selected Chassis Airflow: Standard Factory Chassis Fans Internal Lighting: - No Thanks Enhancements: - No Thanks Chassis Mods: - No Thanks Noise Reduction: - No Thanks Boost Processor: Stage 1: Overclock CPU 4.0GHz to 4.4GHz Boost Video Card: - No Thanks, Please do not overclock my video card(s) Boost Memory: - No Thanks, Please do not overclock my memory Boost OS: - No Thanks, Please do not tweak the services on the operating system Windows OS: Microsoft Windows 7 Professional (64-Bit Edition) Recovery Tools: Windows Recovery Toolkit (Bundled with Windows 7 CD) Virus Protection: - No Thanks Office: - No Thanks Benchmarking: - No Thanks Install/Test Game: - No Thanks Display: - No Thanks Surge Shield: - No Thanks Speakers: - No Thanks Keyboard: - No Thanks Mouse: - No Thanks External Storage: - No Thanks Exclusive T-Shirt: - No Thanks Priority Build: - No Thanks, Ship Within 5-15 Business Days After Order Is Successfully Processed Warranty: Life-time Expert Customer Care with 3 Year Limited Warranty Ask DS specifically for this fan to be added to the side, so you endup with 3 x 200mm fans: haf 200mm non led fan Edited by DST4ME - 12 Jun 2011 at 7:02pm |

Oh weird, I thought I checked the Email Notify me of Replies box. Guess I didn't.
I put this on the back burner for a few days, as my computer problems seemed to go away. Until it started acting up again yesterday. There's also a problem where my network connection drops out while playing games. I'm not sure if it's my PC or my ISP, and my ISP swears it isn't them... but I'm not about to take the word of one of the lowest rated ISPs on Broadband Reports... I've already talked to my roommates about switching to DSL when our contract expires... they aren't gamers, and don't have gaming machines, so they don't run into this, but it also means I have no real way of testing this. (I have a second computer, but it's a non-gaming laptop) Anyway, I see the 750 HX is in the Power Supply dropdown now, so changing the previous ticket to this: Ticket #568331 - $1889. Chassis Model: Special Deal Hot Seller - Cooler Master HAF 922 Exterior Finish: - Standard Factory Finish Trim Accents: - Standard Factory Finish Processor: Intel Core i7 2600K 3.40GHz (Unlocked CPU for Extreme Overclocking) (Quad Core) Motherboard: ASUS P8P67 (Intel P67 Chipset) (New B3 Revision) (Does Not Support SLI) System Memory: 8GB DDR3 1600MHz Digital Storm Certified Performance Series (Highly Recommended) (Hand Tested) Power Supply: 750W Corsair HX (Dual SLI Compatible) Expansion Bay: - No Thanks Hard Drive Set 1: Operating System: 1x (1TB Western Digital Caviar (7200 RPM) (64MB Cache) (Model: Black Edition) Set 1 Raid Options: - No Thanks Hard Drive Set 2: Multimedia\Data: - No Thanks Hard Drive Set 3: Backup\Misc.: - No Thanks Optical Drive 1: DVD-R/RW/CD-R/RW (DVD Writer 24x / CD-Writer 48x) Optical Drive 2: - No Thanks Internet Access: High Speed Network Port (Supports High-Speed Cable / DSL / Network Connections) Video Card: 1x NVIDIA GeForce GTX 570 1.2GB (Includes PhysX Technology) Add-on Card: - No Thanks Sound Card: Integrated Motherboard Audio Extreme Cooling: AIR: Stage 2: Corsair A70 Dual 120mm Fans High Performance Cooler H20 Tube Color:- Not Applicable, I do not have a FrostChill or Sub-Zero LCS Cooling System Selected Chassis Airflow: Standard Factory Chassis Fans Internal Lighting: - No Thanks Enhancements: - No Thanks Chassis Mods: - No Thanks Noise Reduction: - No Thanks Boost Processor: Stage 1: Overclock CPU 4.0GHz to 4.4GHz Boost Video Card: - No Thanks, Please do not overclock my video card(s) Boost Memory: - No Thanks, Please do not overclock my memory Boost OS: - No Thanks, Please do not tweak the services on the operating system Windows OS: Microsoft Windows 7 Professional (64-Bit Edition) Recovery Tools: Windows Recovery Toolkit (Bundled with Windows 7 CD) Virus Protection: - No Thanks Office: - No Thanks Benchmarking: - No Thanks Install/Test Game: - No Thanks Display: - No Thanks Surge Shield: - No Thanks Speakers: - No Thanks Keyboard: - No Thanks Mouse: - No Thanks External Storage: - No Thanks Exclusive T-Shirt: FREE: Digital Storm T-Shirt - Black (Xtra Large) Priority Build: - No Thanks, Ship Within 5-15 Business Days After Order Is Successfully Processed Warranty: Life-time Expert Customer Care with 3 Year Limited Warranty As for the extra fan, how is that usually worded? Just "Please add a HAF 200mm fan to the side?" Also, any particular reason for the HAF 922 instead of the HAF 932, or is that just for money reasons? I was thinking about throwing on a gaming keyboard and mouse, as I tend to buy the cheap keyboard and mouse (my last ones are an el-cheapo Logitech combo set that cost $20 for both), but I'm not so sure I should, as I'm not really sure which ones are good. you can word the fan like you did, you can leave teh link I posted for it with it just incase.
for a single gpu system you dont' need as much room as you do with sli and/or LC, the 932 and 942 are bit bigger and provide more room, the 942 has the most airflow and is the biggest, but those normally are used in multi gpu / lc systems, otherwise for your scenario, the 922 with the extra fan will give you great airflow, so there is no need to go for more room and pay extra. for keyboard and mouse I would post in the hardware or general section, you will get many recommendations there. |

I realize it's been a month, but after my last computer issues went away (turns out it was the mouse), everything worked fine. Up until yesterday, when my desktop started blue-screening every time I tried to use it... with different reasons. Some said something about pages memory in unpaged areas, some said something about system service error.
Anyway, I decided to spend a bit more an go for SLI after all, but I was being lazy and got the ODE 3. To be clear, I have no intention of monkeying around with this computer's internals other than temporarily in order to pull data off my old computer's drives.
