1) Budget: under 4000 but would like to get it around 3000
2) Expectations: might try a triple display in the future but for now just have a 30" with 2500x1600 3) Usage: Gaming SWTOR, guild wars 2, Diablo 3, but I want these games to run flawlessly, also play Skyrim/dragonage on my ps3 because the pc I have now doesn't match its performance. 4) Special Needs: none really, have keyboard, mouse, monitor 5) Questions: Ram 8gb of 1600mhz or 2000mhz GPU: Dual 570 2.5gbs or Dual 580 1.5 gbs 6) Extra info: I just started playing SW:TOR and my old gaming machine just is not cutting it, it is a homemade machine which I was going to do again but after reading up on DS I believe that there are numerous benefits to letting them build it for me. This is the build I was looking at is it enough, not enough, overkill? 3900$ Chassis Model: Special Deal Hot Seller - Black OPS Assassin Edition

Hi Gutless,
You need to decide if you really want to go three screens in the future and if you will be gaming on just one. If what you do in the future requires Tri-SLI then you need the Corsair 1200w power supply. If you stick with gaming on just one 30" screen then dual SLI is OK with the Corsair 1050. It seems like you are just strictly a gamer and you probably don't need the X79 platform. The 2600K will give you want you need with two 570 2.5Gb for less money than going with the 3930K and the 580s. There is no game out today that is using the power of the 6 core X79. The 580 is good for your resolution but I would want the 3Gb and that pushes up the cost. Just giving you some balance between cost and performance to think about. 1. DS 1600 memory is what you want. You will be paying more for the same performance with the 2000. 2. The Intel 320 series is a better choice in the SSD. 3. I would drop the Sabertooth and move up to the Deluxe Mobo. 4. You are going air so get the HAF-X case. Much better air flow. 5. With the HAF-X case you don't want to upgrade to the performance fans. The HAF comes with one 230mm and two 200mm fans. If you want blue fans then change them out for 200mm fans. The front fan in the HAF-X is red. You will want to add the fourth 200mm fan to the top of the HAF-X. The performance fans are 120mm. 6. You don't want to boost the Video cards. The Nvidia cards, especially the 580s, are already high performance cards. I wouldn't want to stress them any more. 7. Don't have DS strip the OS. Do it yourself after you have the computer all set up and operating the way you want it to. If DS does it they may remove something you want to use. If it has been deleted or shut off you might have a hard time finding it again or turning it back on. 8. You forgot to order your free T-Shirt. Frank Edited by FrankW - 23 Jan 2012 at 9:37am |

Gutless,
FrankW has given you some good advice, I would definitely take into consideration what he has to say. I'd also second the importance of more VRAM for you considering your resolution. The future monitor situation is definitely a key factor as you ponder your purchase. Welcome to the forums! ![]() |

For gaming 8GB of 1600MHz DS ram is more then enough.
for your res money is best spent on sli 570 2.5GB, you will not see a difference between that and sli 580. Drop the led fans they are 6 smaller louder 120mm fans vs the 200mm quiet fans of haf as frank mentioned, if you want led fans on haf x let us know we will point you to proper 200mm led fans to get for your case. os boost is pointless you will see no gains, but if you need one of those services then you may have a headache on your hands. if you want tri sli ability then stay with x79 but you need to go with 1200w corsair psu, if not then go to p67 for dual sli you spend less and get the same performance. |
