This will be used mainly for gaming.
The monitor I will be using is a Dell U2711 at 2560 x 1440 resolution.

My budget is $2400.00 to $2700.00.

My concern's are whether I have enough GPU to run at the above resolution,
I mainly play MMO's like Rift, SWTOR, and will be playing Diablo3 and Terra when they come out.

Also are Sound cards not really needed anymore or is the integrated Sound good enough to not lag out games when using Ventrillo or Team Speak now.

Any advice or Info would be greatly Appreciated.

The build I'm looking at right now is:

Hi CharlieV ....   welcome to the forums..

Your right about the gpu powering games at that resolution.  The rig you put together is real good, but you would need to cf 7970, 2 x7970, or tri-sli, 3 gtx 570 to max out gaming, which is a whole new paltform..

I'm not familiar with those games, which I don't think are as demanding, but comparing to BF3 which is the defacto standard for what is needed, two gpu's are needed.

We also recommend the D14 air cooler for reliability and noise.  The H100 is quiet on lo settings, but more noisy than D14 on higher settings.

Hi bprat22,

Thank you for the quick reply I will have to think about the 2 or 3 card upgrade, as I think it may put me out of my price range.

Yep, gaming at that resolution can get expensive.   I game with. 23" monitor at 1920x. 1050 and love it.     You could game at that higher res. but settings would have to be dropped.   Good luck.

Hi CharlieV,

Boy is bprat22 right about 2550 gaming being expensive. If you want to game at the highest settings with any game you have to move up to tri-SLI. To do that you will have to move up to the X79 platform. So the CPU, PS, GPU and Mobo all rise in cost. Moving up to a 27/30" monitor sounds great but it is not for someone on a budget. Have you already bought your monitor? If not, you might want to re-think that purchase. A 24" IPS monitor is hard to beat.

Frank

This is what I decided to go with, I already have the 27" monitor and on my previous rig was using a GTX285 and was able to run on medium to high settings, at some point I will add a second card.
I know you guy's like the Air coolers but if I ever add more ram I don't want the hassle of having to remove it, and I like the LC option as all of my previous computers have had it.

Thank You again for all of the advice.

NiceAwesome
The H100 cooler is a great choice and does have advantages like you said.  They will probably mount it on the top, so the extra fan we usually recommend be added there is a mute point.  On low settings, which others have said keep things cool, the H100 will be about the quietness of the D14.

Ask DS to limit vcore to 1.4.   Vcore is the voltage placed on cpu core during overclocking and 1.4 gives you max performance with long cpu life.  They'll know what you mean.  We bug them all the time.LOL

Free t-shirt is a must Big%20Smile

If you're going with the 2560x1440, if you want high-ultra settings, you're going to at *least* need a dual sli/cf. I think (don't quote me on this) that 2x 7970s can hit that point, but two 570s/580s won't hit high-ultra settings. Like bpratt says, then you'd have to go X79 and get 3x 570/580, and that adds another $2grand at least.

Otherwise, it all looks good. You may want to take the side fan on the HAF X off, if you don't go sli/cf, once you get it set up. One card (esp the 7970) won't benefit as much from it as two or more would. The HAF X has phenominal cooling as it is, and the 7970 stays very cool on its stock fan due to its lower TDP and power consumption.
