Geforce GTX 280 and Geforce GTX 260 are on schedule to launch on June 17th. Both on the 65nm process and using GDDR3 memory with the GTX 280 having 1GB and a 512-bit memory interface. 55nm versions comes later.

The Radeon HD4850 & Radeon HD4870 will launch later in the month on June 25th. It will be on a 55nm process with 512mb of GDDR3 memory. The 4870 will be using the same chip as the 4850 but will be using GDDR5 memory.

Hopefully i got an EVGA card and can rip it out of my system to trade it in..haha.

Then again, ill wait and see if the hype around any of these cards being major improvements is actually true. I like the 280's larger memory though.

I dunno if those are the GT200 cards, but those are rumored to be good. Rumor is the keyword. The extra memory on the 280 will be really nice though.

The GTX 260 and 280 are both based on GT200 architecture. Rumors have it that it will have close to 200 stream processors with 1GB of GDDR3 memory (512-bit memory interface).

NVIDIA already has their next-gen video cards ready. They don't feel it's neccessary until their competitor (AMD/ATi) release a powerful card.

NVIDIA hosted a private conference with industry leaders and was a RSVP event, and their demo systems had those cards.

Other than that, my mouth is shut. Cool

Ooh, can't you at least tell us when the NDA expires?

I think I'll hold off on ordering a PC until GTX 260/280 are released.

Alex, when will DSO get a batch of these for internal testing?

From Fudzilla:

Nvidia has held its famous editors' day, which means that GTX 280 and 260 specs are ready to be revealed. If you weren't there, that means that there is no NDA and you can talk about it as long as you want. The specs of these two new GPUs are basically the same as those which were rumored earlier.

The big chip called the GTX 280 works at 602MHz for the core, and it comes with 1GB of GDDR3 paired up with a 512-bit memory interface and clocked at 1,107MHz. This big chip has 240 stream processors and 32 ROPs with Shaders running at 1,296MHz. This big boys rated TDP stands at 236 Watt, and it should priced at US$600+ at launch.

The GTX 260 works at 576MHz for the core, which is surprisingly close to the GTX 280 clock. This card will have a 448-bit memory interface and it will come packed with 896MB of GDDR3 memory clocked at 896MHz. This chip will have 192 stream processors and 28 ROPs, with Shaders clocked at 999MHz. This card will have a TDP of 182 Watts with a launch price tag of US$449.

It looks like DAAMIT might have a chance here, since its cards will have a lower TDP and most importantly a lower price. We will see which ones are better (performance/price wise) when these cards get released on June 16th for the DAAMITs cards and June 18th for Nvidia's cards.

Damn, these prices!!! I was hoping that they would be at least $100 lower. :(

EVGA does if you have EVGA graphic cards. You can step up to a better card anytime within 90 days of buying a card. Hopefully i get an EVGA GX2, and they allow that to be turned in to step up to a GTX280 lol.

I asked DSO which card they are using and I was told Zotac or EVGA, likely Zotac.

It wouldnt really bother me much if i got a Zotac, though i should of stated evga I just forgot to request that.
The 98GX2 was overkill for what i needed anyways, the GTX280 would be even more..but hey..who knows...if its EXTREMELY Great...say 30-40% faster..then i might just rip that Zotac POS out of my computer anyways and buy a GTX280 full retail. =P

SLI does not double the memory. Its two 512 cards, so its 512GB of memory not 1GB. Unfortually they dont share the memory. Each 'card' of the GX2 (same with any SLI) handles a seperate frame independent of what the other card is doing. So card 1 will work frame 1 and card 2 will work frame 2 in the same space of time. Therefore each card is limited to the memory it has, which is 512MB.

At least thats what ive gotten by learning SLI.

The 98GX2 is a more efficent and powerful GPU then the 88 GTX and Ultras. But its lack of memory bandwith causes it to not be the best at very high resolution + AA AF as the 88s have higher amounts in both reguards. But the running out of memory only happens in the most graphic of games (crysis, ect). But games in the future I highly doubt will use LESS video memory. So really future proofing in mind, the 98 line is not a good choice compared to the 88GTX or Ultra.

All this will be moot in a month or two anyways.

I requested for Evga cards so.

Here's the details about eVGA Step-Up
The participant's trade-in video graphics adapter must be fully functional, be in its original packaging, with all CDs, and manuals, and be in resalable condition. Should these conditions not be met, the applicable value of the trade-in card will be reduced by 15%, with the difference paid by the participant in order to proceed with the Step-Up™ Process.
  • An exception to this rule is if the original product came with a promotional game. This is deemed as a gift and does not need to be returned with the trade-in card. The participant will not be charged for not returning a bundled game.

Now does DS) ship the boxes to us also?
Guess I will be calling later today when they open!

Unless you need the bleeding edge, I would think waiting 6-8 months for the initial price point to fall and some nice stable drivers and such to be made available is a good idea.

Yea i might do that as well. Depends on if I have an EVGA 98GX2 or not. I wont fault them if they gave me a Zotac, I forgot to specify an EVGA. So if its an EVGA I will milk it till about day 80 or so before i do step up. If its a Zotac ill rip that thing out right away and replace it with a newegg bought card and Ill just give the GX2 to a friend.

I am waiting for GTX 260/280 to place my DSO order.

I hope Nvidia doesn't do a paper launch and actually release the cards on June 17th.

I also hope that DSO will offer them immediately as well.

No. Because the memory is physically on the card.

Also the card uses GDDR3 and not DDR3. They are not the same. GDDR3 is a type of memory specifically developed for GPUs.

Good news:

GPUz identifies GTX 280:

Bad news:

If the information we were told is correct, then Nvidia is having some problems ramping up the production of the GT200 series, and this sounds all too familiar when it comes to new Nvidia products.

We’ve heard that even large distributors have a hard time getting more than a handful of cards and that is only if they place large orders of products that Nvidia’s partners have overstock of.

This isn’t the first time this has happened when it comes to Nvidia products, and we’re not sure if it’s a deliberate scam to push up prices of these highly sought-after cards. With the additional requirements of the distributors having to buy additional cards to get their hands on the new fast cards, we’re really starting to wonder what kind of games Nvidia is playing.

So, in other words, if you want one of these new cards when they launch, if you see one for sale, get it, as you won’t get a second chance.
