Hi all
Just posting this to introduce myself. This is my first DS system, and from past experience with other brands I know maker's forums can be very useful.
So, as my first DS right I ordered the following:

System Configuration:
Chassis: Digital Storm 950Si
Power Supply: 1200W PC Power & Cooling (ESA Edition) (Dual/Triple/Quad SLI Compatible)
Processor: 2x Intel Core 2 Quad QX9775 3.20GHz (1600MHz FSB) (Supports Skulltrail D5400XS Only)
Motherboard: Intel Skulltrail D5400XS (Supports up to Two QX9775 Processors) V8 Platform
System Memory: 8GB FB-DIMM DDR2 at 800MHz with ECC (High Performance)
Card Reader: Internal Digital Media Card Reader (Black)
Hard Drive 1: 300GB Western Digital VelociRaptor (10K RPM) (16MB Cache) (Extreme Speed)
Hard Drive 2: 300GB Western Digital VelociRaptor (10K RPM) (16MB Cache) (Extreme Speed)
Raid Option: - No Thanks
Hard Drive 3: 300GB Western Digital VelociRaptor (10K RPM) (16MB Cache) (Extreme Speed)
Optical Drive 1: DVD±R/RW/CD-R/RW (DVD Writer 20x / CD-Writer 48x) (LightScribe Edition)
Optical Drive 2: DVD±R/RW/CD-R/RW (DVD Writer 20x / CD-Writer 48x) (LightScribe Edition)
Wireless Access: Bigfoot Killer Network Card (Features MaxFPS and UltimatePing Technology)
Video Card(s): 2x CrossFire Quad (ATI Radeon HD 4870X2 2GB)
Sound Card: Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi FPS Fatal1ty Champion (Includes Front I/O Unit)
Extreme Cooling: Liquid Chilled FrostBite Dual Loop System for CPU & Triple SLI
Internal Lighting: Blizzard Internal Lighting (Blue Edition) (Cold Cathode Tubes)
Modifications: LCD Temperature Display & Fan Controller
CPU Boost: - No Thanks, Please do not overclock my processor
Graphics Boost: - No Thanks, Please do not overclock my video card(s)
Memory Boost: - No Thanks, Please do not overclock my memory
Windows Boost: Yes, Disable and tweak all of the non-crucial services on the operating system
Windows OS: Microsoft Windows Vista Ultimate (64-Bit Edition) (For Enthusiasts)
Restore Kit: Digital Storm Specialized Recovery System (DVD Image Based)
Grand Total: $11,111.61

I will hook this to a 30" and 24" Samsung monitors, mostly used to work with graphics such as 3D (Maya and SutdioMax),vector, HD video and with my digital photography, I have a 22Mp Canon (1DsMarkIII) so I need processing power to handle these +-140Mb TIFF images, I would say 80% of my time is spent in Photoshop, of course, there is some gaming too, I am not really hardcore, been playing the Unreal series since it came out, still kicking it with UT2k4 and UT3, sometimes try others like Bioshock and such, maybe this one will handle Crysis ok LOL
Rig is now at stage 3 (production is VERY slow) and of course I am super anxious to get my grubby little paws on it!

Glad to see another mixed use rig.

Looks like a good build for your graphics processing needs (22mp! Amazing). Why not overclock the processor under warranty though...considering your investment? (which I know you will somehow write off as a business expense next year like I will...lol)

I am also doing some intense rendering aside from gaming and use a variety of CAD and 3D modeling software for architecture and scenery design.

Since you have three internal drives, do you also have an external backup jic?

yes it will be written off hehehe
About the OC'ing, with already 8 cores I am having blazing performance right ? So, warranty does not change the fact the OC'ing can make this less reliable, andI simply cannot get a rig and take a chance at it going wrong and having to wait weeks for replacement. If I get another down the line then I might consider it, right now I want max performance with max reliability not warranty, so not OC'ing the machine seems like the logical choice to me.

What is your 30"? And did you have to calibrate?

I just picked up a Dell 3008WFP @ 3000:1.

It is a Samsung 305T and yes, I calibrated it, I do not know of any monitor that does not need it. I used to have a Spyder3 to calibrate and today I got a Colormunki, but have not had time to try it yet.
My choice for the Samsung is for it having on the widest available gamuts amongst 30" monitors, even more then the Apple I believe, the Dell is good quality as well, but a bit too gimmiky with sound and more inputs then you can shake a stick at :-)

But its a hot one........ClapClapClap

Well SLI actually does, you just need to go into the control panel and choose SLI mode or dual monitor mode, I am guessing the Crossfire panel might be similar, 1 minutes to switch between work and play hehehehehe
...and I was asked before, not really being a hardcore gamer, why 2X the 4870X2 ?? Well I am quite excited because the next iteration of Adobe's suite, CS4, will use GPU for app performance, I have seen a demo where a 2Gb image was handled like a 1Kb thumbnail by Photoshop CS4!!

Will look into the Colormunki also.

True, all of my Dell monitors have card readers and USB ports galore...obvious result of product overkill. I'm also comparing imaging to my Apple display, checking for edge backlighting, etc.

Enjoy the rig! The most grueling part is obviously waiting out the build time....but the good things in life are well worth it....

Hope you post a review of that monitor, I am curious to know how it does, because i might need another one soon and always like to try new gear.
About the Colormunki, relatively new, pricey and all, but I read good reviews, a bit limited for printer profiling, produces few patches, but should do me good enough since most my work is on screen.
