Topic: New guy, need help with build please Posted: 11 Feb 2009 at 11:06pm |
Hey, everyone. I'm new here, and like most new people, I need some help with building a computer to meet my budget.
I need something to fit my $1,000 budget. I plan on getting 3 computers of the same type, so that would technically be $3,000 EDIT: Can you take a look at this one? AMD Quad http://www.digitalstormonline.com/comploadsaved.asp?id=246100 Intel Duo http://www.digitalstormonline.com/comploadsaved.asp?id=246106 Which would be my best bang for my buck? I won't be getting 3 of them for a couple months. I was looking at alot of computer places like iBuyPower, CyberpowerPC and stuff. DS seems like they're the best option for me. The thing I don't get is why are all the computer companies in California.. lol. No worries, though. Shipping is good these days. (and I trust DS more with their packaging) Okay, here's what I'd like: (I'll go with either AMD or Intel) Budget: $1,000 per computer: Main use is gaming. Strictly gaming.
I need the best bang for my buck which would be $1,000 That $1,000 needs to be a fully assembled system. w/Operating system, Vista preferably because of DX10 (I heard of W7, but w/e..) Not sure if a monitor can be included in that price. Anyhow, see what you can do for me please. Thank you, Elition Edited by Elition - 12 Feb 2009 at 1:44am |

You came to the right place! I would imagine that the system design gurus will be on your post shortly with advice and suggestions. In the mean time, look at the other posts in this section of the forum to see some of the past recommendations!
The service provided by Digital Storm and their fanatic customer base is why I ordered my dream machine from these guys. I still have a few days before my beast arrives. Edited by Onkel_Ken - 11 Feb 2009 at 11:13pm |

$1000 for a quad core and 9800 GTX+ is not gonna happen.
if thats your budget, you should build it yourself. I'm not gonna ask why 3 CPUs but I will tell you that for $3000 we can config one hell of a system. |

$3,000 for 3 systems because I'm getting the other 2 for my sisters. And of course 1 is for me. Could you still make a system for me? Duo perhaps? |

This is as barebones as I could get it for you. You might save a little more if you drop the GPU to the 9600. Hate to say it, but you would be better off saving another $3,000 and check back then to get 3 computers at $2000 apiece. It would be a much better system than what you can get for $1,000 apiece. This system is not really future ready. The x58 mobo is the one to use now.
No monitor, keyboard, mouse or speakers included either. If you are going barebones, you could buy cheap versions of all those peripherals, but they are gonna show their cheapness.

can't do any better then what Kryhavoc has posted, as he says its barebone, you can't apgrade this system. I really think you are better off building yourself, or buy 2 and 2 of you share a pc. Edited by DST4ME - 11 Feb 2009 at 11:57pm |

hey, I may be able to swing $1,200 per system. But that has to include everything. Monitor, speakers, keyboards and mice. I can probably.. probably get those items elsewhere, monitor too for maybe $130 at amazon or newegg. (can I post these names?) Please see what you can do. |

do they have more options for the processors? Do I HAVE to call them? Can I email them instead with my own specs and they can give me a price for items that are not listed? |

building ur own computer is actully really easy
all stripped down its basically screwing a motherboard into a case, putting the cpu in the socket, puting the ram in the dim slots, and puting the gfx card in the pci slot then connecting all the wire(easy bcuz of mobo instructions) literally the part thats hardest for me is putting the cpu cooler on, some of those things have the stupdest brackets |

Alright. But what do you suggest? Intel Duo benefits me for having a Tri-SLI motherboard. AMD Quad benefits me for, well.. having a Quad CPU and no SLI. I won't be doing hard core gaming, but future proofing did cross my mind. Suggestions? |

Elition, both processors are good, but intel is better. My recommendation is save more money(another $3,000) and we can help you build a better system that can last you for a long time.
you could buy this system for $2,000 http://www.digitalstormonline.com/comploadsaved.asp?id=246486 Copy of Specifications: Chassis Model: Cooler Master HAF 932 Exterior Finish: - Standard Factory Finish Interior Finish: - Standard Factory Finish Trim Accents: - Standard Factory Finish Processor: Intel Core i7 920 2.66GHz (Quad Core) Motherboard: EVGA X58 3X SLI (Intel X58 Chipset) (Supports Triple SLI or CrossFire) System Memory: 3GB DDR3 1333MHz Corsair Dominator DHX (High-Performance) Power Supply: 750W PC Power & Cooling (Dual SLI Compatible) (Silencer Edition) Card Reader: - No Thanks Hard Drive Set 1: Operating System: 320GB Western Digital (16MB Cache) (7200 RPM) (SATA) Set 1 Raid Options: - No Thanks Hard Drive Set 2: Multimedia\Data: - No Thanks Hard Drive Set 3: Backup\Misc.: - No Thanks Optical Drive 1: DVD±R/RW/CD-R/RW (DVD Writer 20x / CD-Writer 48x) (LightScribe Edition) Optical Drive 2: - No Thanks Internet Access: High Speed Network Port (Supports High-Speed Cable / DSL / Network Connections) Video Card: 1x NVIDIA GeForce GTX 260 896MB (216 Cores) (Includes PhysX Technology) Add-on Card: - No Thanks Sound Card: Integrated Motherboard Audio Extreme Cooling: AIR: Stage 1: Cooler Master GeminII S (Compatible With i7 Processors) Liquid Color:- Not Applicable, I do not have a H20: Stage 3 Cooling System Selected Chassis Airflow: Standard Factory Chassis Fans Internal Lighting: Internal Chassis Lighting System (Green) Enhancements: - No Thanks Chassis Mods: - No Thanks Boost Processor: Yes, Overclock the processor as much as possible with complete stability Boost Video Card: - No Thanks, Please do not overclock my video card(s) Boost Memory: - No Thanks, Please do not overclock my memory Tweak Windows: - No Thanks, Please do not tweak the services on the operating system Windows OS: Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium (64-Bit Edition) (For Enthusiasts) Restore Kit: Digital Storm Specialized Recovery System (DVD Image Based) Virus Protection: - No Thanks Office: - No Thanks Benchmarking: - No Thanks Install/Test Game: - No Thanks LCD Display: - No Thanks Surge Shield: - No Thanks Speakers: - No Thanks Keyboard: - No Thanks Mouse: - No Thanks External Storage: - No Thanks Exclusive T-Shirt: - No Thanks Priority Build: - No Thanks Warranty: 3 Year Platinum Care Extended Parts & Labor Warranty |

Hey, guys.
Thanks for all your help and assistance. I would very, very, very much like to purchase the computers from DS, but because of the pricing, I simply can't do it. What I'll do is build my own computers. I do have a simple favor/question to ask about the bios settings for when I first boot up one of the computers after I've built it. Do I just pop in the Vista OEM disc and see what happens or do I have to do some bio setting? EDIT: or if someone knows of an online guide for bio / operating system setting for first time builders? Thanks once again, Elition Edited by Elition - 13 Feb 2009 at 12:35am |

once you have flashed the bios, you need to set it to boot from CD, you need to set your ram speed, with the x58 I believe the easiest way for you is to use the "extreme memory profile" or "xmp", this will let you set your ram settings by speed instead of adjusting each settings, for example if you have 1333MHz ram in xmp you choose 1333MHz and it will automatically set your voltage and qpi for that ram speed, I think you will have to enter your ram timings manually not sure.
after that you put in you vista CD boot from it and follow the prompts for fresh install. here is a great install guide for vista Edited by DST4ME - 13 Feb 2009 at 12:53am |

This is one of many reasons why we love DS and we know they are the real McCoy, they are not threatened bye newegg prices or people building their own, so they let us talk about what ever we want.
good luck hope to see you with a DS system when times get better |

Oh, forgot to ask 1 last thing.. I read somewhere that you can ask DS to order the parts for you and they test everything (for a price of course), but is this possible? |

Yes, they can order parts if you request anything that is not listed in the configurator or if you want a specific brand of something (i.e. you want a specific blu-ray reader). Call and talk to them about pricing for what you want to order.
Testing is part of the service they provide.
