Well here is my sad story of a young person that just wants to do some damn gaming. I was 15 alls I wanted was gaming computer, of course I went online and to sites such as this one but well for a 15 year old with no job prices of even a cheap PC were out of reach. So after a whole summers of work I ended up with about 300 bucks. Now 300 bucks for a gaming PC you may be thinking eh what a moron. So anyway I researched every little detail about every single component and read every single review. So off to newegg. I put together the best price to performance ratio I think anyone has ever created. AMD sempron 2800+ 512 MB ram, 80gig hd and a geforce 6200 with 256mb of ram and 256-bit ram. I could play call of duty 2 on slightly under max settings and battlefield 2 online with not problems. Plus warcraft. Over the whole time I had learned a crap load about computers and how to build them. Then after a year the stock CPU cooler (it was a sempron i figured i could use a stock cooler) stopped working and one day i go to turn on computer and nothing, so i open case and the CPU is literally melted to the Mother board. Now I'm 18 and I have the specs in my signature. So I can play some flash games a with crazy lag. Now I'm getting ready to go off to college this fall and figure I might as well get the system I've always wanted. So I stumbled on your site.

Also do you think it is worth it right not to get 4 gigs instead of 2 ?

For me right now its a tossup between Digital Storm, Vigor Gaming and Solaris Computer systems. What do you guys think.
Pentium 2
128MB of RAM
No GPU
and a 30GB HD

And you wondered why I registered lol (those specs are not a joke)

Wow, being broke sucks, but being 18 is great. Maybe you should buy a crappy DELL or Acer machine that's just good enough to do your homework on for a few hundred bucks. Save the rest of  you money for beer, X and girls.... If you're not going to do that, DS will probably build you a better machine for the money.

Oh yeah, it doesn't make sense to get 4 Gig of RAM unless you have a 64-bit OS.

At least youre not in my situtation. Ive been saving for about a month and a half now. Finally planning to buy a great DS system at the end of this month.

And of course, sensing that i might actually get something I enjoy, my car decides its a great time to have a check engine light come on. 2883 miles past when the warrenty ran out on it.

American made cars suck. oh well, it goes in tomorrow. Lets hope its something easy to fix and only costs a few hundred or so. Like a bad fuel filter or spark plugs....

I think its one of those, the exaust smells of gasoline, which leads me to believe one or more of the cylanders isnt firing..that or the mixture is way too rich..

Anyways 4GB of ram is great if you got a 64 bit OS...4GB of 1066 is even better =P

SunfighterLC, I just have to comment on your post.  It's actually very funny in a, well um, how would you say, I'm desperately seeking Susan kinda way.  It's almost like your having sex and holding a conversation with someone at the same time.  "I'm really into this wonderful woman that is about to help me see some fantastic new color that has never been seen before as I approach euphoric orgasmic nirvana, but 4 gigs of RAM would be ok if you could just move to the left a bit and read me the bar code on my MOBO before I pass out due to the lack of blood flow to my brain".

Just an observation.  I could be wrong.

I would buy a new gas cap for $7 and see if that makes the check engine light go away.  I bet it does.  Most "check engine" lights on relatively new cars are gas cap problems - unless of, course you were driving without oil or coolant.

Hey JHill23,

I just ordered my PC from DS after wading through various online "boutique" and "discount" gaming PC sites. I don't know if my situation applies to you or not, but my priority came down to budget and service. Seems that the other companies that provide what I consider adequate service all cost too much for my meager budget, while the discount dealers don't have after-sales service worth mentioning.

If you built your own PC last time, you might not care too much about after-sales service support, as long as the company will replace defective parts. Personally, I opt for companies that are about service over those who are looking to save you a dime or a quarter...

Duke, at DS, worked with me on the phone, paring down the cheapest system and then doing minimal upgrades that I could afford. In the end, I know it's the best I could hope to afford, while having the assurance that there will be someone to provide service support.

Current dying system (6 yrs old):

AMD Athlon XP, 1800 MHz (13.5 x 133) 2200+
Asus A7N8X  mobo
1024 MB  (PC2700 DDR SDRAM)
RADEON 9700 PRO  (128 MB)
Creative SB0090 Audigy Player Sound Card
WDC WD12 00JB-00CRA1 SCSI Disk Device  (111 GB)
PLEXTOR CD-R   PX-W4012A SCSI CdRom Device  (40x/12x/40x CD-RW)
SONY DVD-ROM DDU1615 SCSI CdRom Device  (16x/48x DVD-ROM)

yeah... it sux hahah!

DS system I ordered:

Digital Storm 650Si (Black Anodized Aluminum Finish)
550W Corsair HX (Dual SLI Compatible) (Silent Edition)
AMD Athlon X2 5200+ 2.6GHz (Dual Core) (2 MB Cache)
Asus M2N SLI (nForce 5 series SLI Chipset)
2GB DDR2 Corsair at 667MHz (Dual Channel)
DVD±R/RW/CD-R/RW (DVD Writer 20x / CD-Writer 48x)
nVidia GeForce 8600GT 512MB (By: eVGA) (PCI-Express)
Air Cooled Stage 1 (Certified Digital Storm Heat-sink)
Microsoft Windows XP Home (Includes Service Pack 2)

Cat  ~~~(___)>^,,^<

P.S. I just placed my order yesterday, and...

Order Status:      Stage 4: (Engineering Lab)
Your order has successfully passed our phase 1 stress testing, it has now progressed into our engineering lab. A specialized Digital Storm Assembly Engineer will carefully put together your order as if it was their own. They have a passion to build every system as if it was their show piece.

Well my budget will be about 2000-3000 dollars as I'm going to take out an extra bit of money to buy a computer for "college work". I'm going to get a new job over the summer and literally save up for pretty much random things like beer. I figure cause my parents won't be paying for my college i might as well get it using that money. I'm paying it back myself anyways.
Right now I'm looking at DS and Solaris but my only problem with them is their legal problems although they are getting great reviews, just like you guys.

Hey jhill,

with that kinda budget you can get a very good gaming pc pretty much anywhere. I mean, like a Q6600 cpu and a geForce 8800GT or GTS is well within that price range and with some work you could find better that will suit your personal needs. Think about what sort of customer service and support you want, as well as any warranty that comes with your system. I checked out Solaris, and since their site is basically non-functioning, I'm left wondering if they are a serious business. The company is supposedly a year old already and the configurators don't function??? If you buy from Solaris, do you think they could help you fix any issues you have with your new pc should any emerge? I would be a little wary.

IMO, talk with the DS guys!  They can make you happy I'm sure. Smile
