New hard drive issues

Hi guys, I'm having an issue with my new hard drive not being recognized by my computer. Its a brand new western digital (part number wd6000hlhx). Ive got the power supply cable hooked up and the ATA hooked up to the sata 2/3 (not sure which its in) port on the motherboard. I'm pretty sure i hear the drive power up when i turn the pc on.I have an EVGA x58 3x sli motherboard and windows 7 for the operating system. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
