Topic: New Intel i9 109X0 series question Posted: 25 Nov 2019 at 7:25am |
Hello! My name is Kyle, and this is my first post here. I'm super excited to have decided to order my new workstation PC from DS, and I was about to pull the trigger yesterday (thanks to the Black Friday savings) until I saw that it was possible that Intel would release a refreshed processor today, which they officially announced this morning. I hope this question fits here, because I wasn't sure where else to post it and I'm in a push/pull kind of flux state with this build and I needed some expert opinions. How long of a delay is there typically between new hardware being announced (Intel i9 10980xe) and it being available for order and configuration through Digital Storm? I know that this answer has a LOT of variables, and I don't expect things to be available immediately, and I would typically wait but due to Black Friday savings this week and the fact that the 10980 doesn't provide a whole bunch of difference to the 9980, I'm in a bit of a quandary. On one hand, the savings right now tell me to buy, but on the other hand the new processors are about 50% less base price, and while I don't expect to fully realize those savings by going through a company for configuration like DS (I do completely understand the concept of profit margins, and labor cost), I figure that they should both even themselves out because the processor costs a full 1000 dollars less. On the other hand, the performance gains with the 10980 aren't substantial, aside from what seems to be a little more thermal headroom, so maybe it isn't even worth it to frett. For the rest of my build, I'm looking at a +6000 dollar system, as I need a new primary workstation for my business, so money isn't the biggest concern to me. Honestly, I just want the biggest and fastest build I can get for 3D design, modeling, and rendering, and I do need to stick with Intel over AMD for software-related reasons. Sorry, I know that was a lot of words... I'll summarize for people who skim (like I often do): If a new Intel CPU is announced to be available worldwide starting today, what would be your guess as to when we might see that available in a configuration on the DS website? Also, I'm in California in the bay area, so if I'm able to just go to a location to ask I'd do that also, but I'm not certain this is allowed. Do they have a storefont? |

Welcome to the DS forum Kyle !
From what little I have reviewed on this new processor, it’s performance is about the same but it’s lower price is the big benefit to you. Try shooting an email to DS Manager Alex about the bigger question...availability to DS. [email protected] |

The company has not posted about this in awhile, but traditionally, they have welcomed people to their facility to tour, or to personally pick up their computers.
They have made it known in the past couple of months that they have relocated to a larger facility on top of having done so just about a year ago. So, I don't know exactly where they are. I believe they are still in Fremont, though. |

IIRC, Cretae, the moved from Fremont to Morgan Hill the first time. I'm not up to speed on this latest move though.

Alex said the new larger DS facility is about 4 miles from the current Morgan Hill location, but also said the two sites would operate concurrently through the Holiday period at least. They really don’t want last years holiday production delays again...

Correct, but the holidays will get quite busy, so there could be small delays.
