    Posted: 01 Dec 2012 at 11:53am
I have been using a Microsoft Internet Keyboard (black) for 10 years and it is a great keyboard. However it is a PS/2 keyboard and will not work with my new Slade DS computer I have coming.

I've been looking and researching new keyboards and really cannot find one that has all positive reviews, it seems like both keyboards and mice have equal positive and negative reviews. I can't find one with all great reviews, which I guess is normal for anything.

Anyways I thought I would ask the DS community what keyboards they have and which ones they are happy with.

I don't really care about wireless and I don't want to spend a fortune but I don't want anything cheap either, maybe something around 40-70 dollars.

Just for fun I attached a picture of my 10 year old keyboard, and believe me I keep it clean, but after seeing the picture I need to clean it again, and I reaaaaly need a new keyboard.

Hi John1017 ....Congrats on the new DS Slade rig on the way! You'll have to post a review & pics when you get it...

There are several decent keyboards under $80...just depends on what's important to you. See newegg.com
Razer Blackwidow Tournament Edition
Cooler Master CM Storm QuickFire Rapid SGK-4000

I'm using a new Razer Blackwidow Ultimate 2013 full mechanical keyboard with MX Cherry Blue keys...like it a lot! See my rigs review with a pic of keyboard here:
http://www.digitalstormonline.com/forums/buck-039-s-tma-1-ds-black-ops-hailstorm-tidf19246/

I would also recommend the Corsair K90 mechanical keyboard using MX Cherry Red keys...in use on my son's DS Ode Level 3...Solid well built keyboard. The similar K60 has no backlighting and will be a bit cheaper and is also very well built. Above the price range you mentioned but well worth the extra $$ in my humble opinion.

Here is a little guide on mechanical key switches that overclock.net did to explain the different types.

Hope that helps....

I would suggest you try out a mechanical keyboard before buying one, if you like the look of one of HockeyBuck's suggestions. While you may have used them in the distant past, the new mechanical keyboards do not feel the same to me as the older ones.

Just to let you know I went with the cheap logitech wireless keyboard k360--$25 dollars.

I wasn't sure about wireless, and I wasn't sure about the compact design, but so far I actually love how it looks on my desk, and it frees up a lot of room I didn't know I had.

As far as gaming goes, I've been playing far cry 3 and I haven't had any keyboard issues.

Yeah I was too frugal to go over $50 on a keyboard, I just kept going back and forth, between different keyboards, I would find one I liked and then find negative reviews. So I decided to go cheap and get the Logitech K360,,, I'll see how long this cheap one last and then maybe think about going into the $100 range for a new keyboard. But so far I have no problem with the $25 keyboard.
