I will be moving by summers end and want to simplify my computer set up at my new digs.

Looking to move away from desktop towards a laptop which have gotten sufficient for my needs.

DS offers the xm17 and x17. For the xm one I would consider the level 3 trim and for the x one the level 2 base and tack on a 120 GB SSD and keep the 500GB as the secondary.

I'm leaning towards the X17 model due to be a bit more self contained. It includes space for a second internal HD, sub woofer with five speakers and DVI to connect a 24 inch secondary display.

Would be good to hear from x17 owners to comment on the sound with sub woofer. Would like to avoid external speakers due to more wires and taking up space.

The XM has the nvidia 540 and the x has the nvidia 460 with 1.5 GB vram. Which one comes out on top?

I am still confused on the role of HDMI and displays. Does HDMI sufficient to power a Dell 24' Studio display as a secondary for ever day general usage?

By summers end, I know the specs and configuration will change. Suggestions welcomed.

The x17 is a more powerful gaming laptop. The xm17 isn't bad, but, the GPU on it is not focused for gaming but more for light gaming and multimedia use instead.

The HDMI will power the 24" dell with no problem.

Alex, any chance Sandy Bridge will move over to the x17E chassis at some point?

Until Sager/Clevo decides to make a model supporting it, I guess not. IMO though, I'd think they'd wait until X58-E comes out to make another desktop/laptop hybrid.
