Budget:
[3000. give or take a couple of hundred] Expectations: [My old rig of 11 years (and 3 GPU upgrades) recently gave up the ghost and has been respectfully dispatched. So I'm looking to replace "old faithful" with a new Gaming/Personal-use rig. I have two "must be able to do" conditions: 1. run my games on a ASUS PG279QZ for 1440 fun, and 2. have enough CPU/RAM/SSD power that I can do a GPU upgrade every 2 or 3 years or so … money is not an issue, BUT - I don't like to pay premium prices, so my rtx 2080ti or Titan would come a couple of years from now (unless I have no choice but to upgrade my choices now given my requirements). My current fav games are Witcher 3, Civ 6 and Elder Scrolls online. So my question is, does the below set up deliver on my two "must do", or do I have to reach back into the wallet? Any and all input would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. ] Usage: [Gaming, typical internet usage like YouTube, email, online banking ect...] Chassis Model: Digital Storm Lynx Core Components Processor: Intel Core i7-9700K (4.9 GHz Turbo) (8-Core) 3.6 GHz Motherboard: ASUS ROG Strix Z390-H Gaming (Intel Z390 Chipset) (Up to 3x PCI-E Devices) System Memory: 16GB DDR4 3200MHz Digital Storm Performance Series Power Supply: 850W Corsair RM850x (Fully Modular) Storage / Connectivity Storage Set 1: 1x SSD M.2 (500GB Samsung 970 EVO PLUS) (NVM Express) Storage Set 2: 1x Storage (2TB Seagate / Toshiba / Hitachi) Internet Access: High Speed Network Port (Supports High-Speed Cable / DSL / Network Connections) Graphics Card(s): 1x GeForce RTX 2070 SUPER 8GB (VR Ready) Sound Card: Integrated Motherboard Audio Extreme Cooling: Corsair H100i PRO - 240mm Liquid CPU Cooler (Fully Sealed + No Maintenance) Cable Management: Exotic Cable Management - Black - (Cable Combs with Custom Color Sleeved Extension Cables) Chassis Fans: Digital Storm Performance Series (RGB Fans) Internal Lighting: Remote Controlled Advanced LED Lighting System (Multiple RGB Color Modes) Edited by Ision - 24 Oct 2019 at 10:42am |

Welcome to the forum Ision!
Good Lynx system. Assume you are at least taking advantage of the Free Stage 1 Overclock on the excellent I7-9700K CPU. A couple suggestions... RAM. Change to Corsair Vengeance Pro RGB RAM...Inexpensive change gets you a much better Corsair warranty and RGB light effects. GPU. For 1440P / 2K gaming you would be much better served for much longer ahead by going with the stronger RTX 2080 Super GPU. The 2070 is OK midrange performance for solid 1080P level use, but the greater number of GPU Cores on the RTX 2080 Super makes a big difference for better smoother 1440P / 2K use. Case fans. Moving up to the better Corsair LL or ML Series fan upgrade gets you better, quieter fan performance, and adds a Corsair Lighting Node Pro module that would allow you to synchronize all Corsair RGB led component and peripherals lighting effects. See what you think..... |

The RAM upgrade at the minimal cost is a must-do.
The GPU difference is more complex. The 2070 SUPER is actually the consensus price/performance pick for 1440p unless you simply must have the highest frame rates. Two of your main games are not all that demanding to begin with, and in a benchmark comparison the cards on ultra yield 90 fps vs 103 in Witcher 3. But you will be playing other games in the future, and the 2080 will give you higher frame rates. There is room in your budget, and you always do better buying better. |
