While I await my new rig I am contemplating the LG L245WP-BN 24" Widescreen. I have read multiple reviews.
The pros: Great colors and clarity. 178 degree viewing angles. easy setup.
The Cons:The only negatives I have seen concern the fact that there is no DVI input. The Monitor comes with a DVI to HDMI cable and there have been no complaints. The response time is 8ms but again there have been no complaints about ghosts. I am seriously considering this and can get it for $599.00. If anyone has information to share I would appreciate your insight.

I am no expert but I can tell you that 8ms is way high in this day and age. And no DVI cable is not good.
Check out the Samsung line. IMHO a much better quality and value.
I very recently got a Samsung 22bw wide screen (22 inch, 2 ms) and it is incredible playing my games maxed out! I do not care how much is going on on the screen, it is perfect.
And I got it on the web after some searching for 300 bucks with no shipping and a $50.00 mail in rebate.
I say check out Samsung. They come very highly rated, too!

I've taken apart a couple LCD monitors in my day. FYI, the majority uses LG panels.

anything with lower than 6ms response time is going to most likely be a TN panel, like the Samsung 245BW. This means your viewing angles are going to be very limited compared to a P-MVA panel like the LG (same panel as the BenQ FP241W). I bought the 245BW and returned it the next day, because if your eyes are not directly in the middle of the screen you will notice that the top of the screen is darker than the rest, and if you slouch it will be much more noticeable. The low response times of these panels are the main appeal and are fine if you use your machine entirely for gaming but some people will get irriated by the viewing angles like myself.
I have the LG 24" and I can tell you it is phenomenal. 8ms is perfectly fine as I have experienced ZERO ghosting whatsoever. I used to have a 16ms response time 20" Samsung 214T and all the reviews said it had bad ghosting but I barely noticed it at all in games so that might tell you something about how noticeable 8ms will be. You can actually see a pretty good review right here http://www.bexox.com/showdown.htm... it compares the Dell, the BenQ, and the LG... the LG pretty much had the best reviews and it's the cheapest.
As far as the HDMI to DVI goes... HDMI is the same signal (digital) as DVI just with audio in it... it's not going to make a difference. Edited by nomec - 23 Jan 2008 at 11:35am |

That does it. I'm ordering the beast tonight!!
To bad I didn't look it up last month becasue Best Buy had been selling it's twin sister the LG L246WP at a discount because LG discontinued this Box store version. From what I can gather The LG L245WP is the exact same monitor but only sells via online type stores.

Yep, you are correct on the 246 and 245... same thing, just one is retail and one is sold online.
