I am looking for a new modem and was hoping you guys could recommend a good gaming modem to pair with a ASUS RT-N56U Wireless Router. I was looking at a Motorola SB6120, but I wasn't sure. Thanks for the help guys.

I have owned, and/or worked with multiple Surfboard modems over the years, they have always been reliable and good performers. I can only think of one instance in which I saw one fail, and that was due to a problematic software push by an ISP. I don't have any experience with the SB6120, but as a whole I give the Motorola Surfboard line good rep from my experience.

Thanks for the reply Tidgxor. I am completely open to anything else, so if there might be something that is out there that might be a lower price, but a good pairing to that ASUS router, I am def open to that. I just want to make sure I am not buying a cable modem that will be the wrong speed for that router and stuff and is also very reliable.

FrankW Hi Nekron,
Why are you buying a cable modem? Doesn't your cable company provide one free of charge? The Motorola Surfboard is very reliable. I have been using the same one for many years. The SB6120 is a high speed modem and you need to make sure your cable company is optioned to accept it. There may be a fee of some type for using this modem if their system will handle the speed. Obviously I can't speak for Nekron's reasoning, but some ISPs charge a monthly "rental" fee for the modem they provide. Which means that if you stay with a service for a period of time (sometimes as little as 1 year) you end up paying more in the long run. I don't have any personal experience with Asus Routers, so sadly I can't suggest much in the way of good pairings. |
