I think it will be faster!
I just replaced my 12 year old Digital Storm system last week and mine was faster. |

Interestingly, if you had an NVMe SSD in your Lynx, you'll only see a bit of improvement in overall speed for normal tasks. If you did not, it will be very noticeable.
The combo of cutting edge CPU and a killer GPU, however, may well be striking on newer games if you have a 1440p high refresh or better monitor. Let us know what YOU think! |

My lynx does have the ssd. This was aimed at the high refresh 1440 gaming. I don’t do much on my pc besides game. I’m torn between selling and keeping the lynx

The 12900K is not superior to the 12700K for gaming. Save the money to use elsewhere.
https://cpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Intel-Core-i9-12900K-vs-Intel-Core-i7-12700K/4118vs4119 In my comment above, note I specified an NVMe SSD. SATA drives are much slower. Your storage is all SATA. The Samsung 980 PRO is NVMe, and runs up to 9 times faster than the drives you picked. Take your savings on the CPU and get a 980 Pro for your "C" drive, it makes a huge difference for the operating system. Pick a 970 PLUS for your Secondary. Yes, it's slower, but it won't matter a bit when loading games. It's still 5 times faster than a SATA SSD. There is no reason to overclock a modern CPU for gaming. All it does is make the proc run hot all time, which is e really poor idea. The GPU does all the heavy lifting in games, and the latest procs are overpowered. Yours will automatically overclock to 4.9 GHz when the demand is there, and run cooler the rest of the time. IDK if have to select the 2/4 year free warranty to get it, but it's a good idea. There's also a free mousepad available. |

Chips confuse the hell out of me. There seems to be no rhyme or reason to their speeds vs names

Sincerely, it is a pleasure. I want to advise folks to get the most they can squeeze out of what they have to spend.
Boy are you in for a treat!!! Everything you do from Windows will be up to 9 times faster! The thing with CPUs and gaming is that games are deliberately designed to run on low-end processors so that the market will be as large as possible. I have a 6-core 8700K from 2017 that plays everything I throw at it to this day. The 12700k has a totally new and innovative hybrid chip configuration. It's been out a month! To have 12 cores and 20 threads at a much greater native speed, and so beyond the minimum required, it won't be possible to overpower it for the life of your system. Why get more than that?? |

That's very strong! I like the small 980 for the "C" drive as it makes it easier to maintain with scans and back ups. You'll have plenty of room for a few of your fave games, too, so it's all good. 2TB of NVMe goodness for your games library is thumbs up!

That was my plan! I have a similar set up in my lynx. And it was very nice to have.
