You can't do tri sli correctly on p67, even if you could, that mobo can't do 3 cards, we need to move to x79 for proper tri sli ability:

Thanks DST4ME! That is quite a bit out of budget though! Should I stick with the older chipset and two 580s?

Ehhhh, I'd think running three 1920x1080's on two 580s is still sort of pushing it, I've lost my sense of what the 580s can do though. Gonna go do some research...

@hotshot146 What's funny is that their 70'incher is only displaying 1920x1080, same as our 23 inch monitors here.

EDIT :: I'm thinking it'll work, but you're definitely not going to be able to put settings in the extreme range.

No for your res you need lot of power, tri sli 570 2.5GB is pretty much tri sli 580.

if you want to sepend less you can go with dual sli 570 2.5GB, but as mentioned for your res you gonna want more power.

either way with your res even if you go dual sli, I we would recommend that you still have tri sli ability, cause you may need it.

its up to you, if you want dual sli only and on the p67 let me know I will whip it up for you.

DST4ME and others!

I wanted to keep this around 3k.. but I guess that just isn't possible. I just can't find a way to push costs down any further.. (red LED fans being the exception)
If there are suggestions for a Z68 build for 1920x1080 native,
High settings, AA

Or variants of the following build, please speak up!

I'm a little confused now, what res are we configuring for?

I would not recommend the changes you made, some are less relibable/performing parts and some won't work, the a70 for example is not the right fit for x79.

the lef fans are pointless, they are smaller, louder and don't replace all your fans.

gpu boost brings you no noticeable gains but will give you more heat, drop it, if its not in my config, you don't need/want it.

if you want to go with a x79 tri sli, then you want my build, my build has the bare minimum while keeping quality/reliability/performance, any changes you make to it, you are taking away from those.

if you want a haf x with red fans then you should order these and swp them out with your non led 200mm fans:

200mm red led fan

now as I said before, what res we config for? cause you make a comment about a build for 1920x1080.

for that res

well, even though confused you gave me all the answers. I guess the question now is 2.8K for single screen, or 4.2k for surround..

I'll let you know if I have more questions, etc.

Thanks!

Okay what about this build? It has all the parts you recommended, but a downgraded harddrive spec from:
Hard Drive Set 1: Operating System: 1x (120GB Solid State (By: Intel) (Model: 320 Series)
Set 1 Raid Options: - No Thanks
Hard Drive Set 2: Multimedia\Data: 1x (1TB Western Digital Caviar (7200 RPM) (Model: Black Edition)
Hard Drive Set 3: Backup\Misc.: - No Thanks

To:
Hard Drive Set 1: Operating System: 1x (120GB Solid State (By: Intel) (Model: 320 Series)
Set 1 Raid Options: - No Thanks
Hard Drive Set 2: Multimedia\Data: - No Thanks
Hard Drive Set 3: Backup\Misc.: - No Thanks

Which saves 200 dollars which puts it at 3,805.
Alternately I could get a
Hard Drive Set 2: Multimedia\Data: 1x (750GB Seagate Barracuda (7200 RPM) (32MB Cache) (Model: HD-ST3750528AS)
And no SSD, and be at 3,677. Almost within budget.

I am using a six year old computer right now and load times are fine for me, plus I can always add whichever drive I'm missing when prices (because of thailand for HDD and because of the novelty of SDD) lower.

Since the other parts cannot be downgraded, and I know this isn't ideal, but it seems like I have to do something unusual like this, or drop to the P67 single screen build. Thoughts?

We don't recommend ssd for load times, we recommend ssd so that you have a balanced system in power, and the least bottlenecks, hitches, much much much faster read write at 4k level, etc.

ssd does lot more then just help load times.

if you want to get just get the ssd now and then add a 1TB BC later when prices of hdd come down thats fine but don't skimp out on the ssd.

the 1TB BC is recommended for its speeds, the seagate does not share them.

You said an SDD does a lot more than load data more quickly, but don't really explain what this is. what exactly is a "balanced system in power" and what "bottleneck" do you refer to? If the RAM and cache are substantial enough it is my understanding that HDD isn't used for anything other than booting up the game or loading the next level.

I am reasonably sure I will be purchasing a 500Gb hybrid from seagate, the load times of which can approach even the velociraptor after it learns what you use most, and considering I just play one game at a time, and do nothing else, it will learn very very fast.

I would not resist so much if a dual drive set-up wasn't out of budget on an already expensive system! Also, it seems as though you work for DS? Is this the case or are you just a real enthusiast? Either way, it doesn't matter to me, and I thank you for your awesome continuing support and advice

I'm just a customer like you but very knowledgable in the area, I can build you any pc you like, since I don't work for DS there is no conflict of interest from my recommendations, I recommend what is best for you and not what makes DS the most money.

the hybrid drive is a bad idea, it can't do what ssd can.

somebody gave you bad info, cause even tho you have ram and etc it has nothing to do with your os drives's performance.

as mentioned most of our uses is in 4k level, at this level you can raid 10 hdds, veloci raptors, hybrid drives and you still can't match speed of a good ssd like 320 on that level. without it you will have bottlenecks where the os drive will slow you down in your process.

when using a pc, whether its gaming or not, keep a few things in mind:

1. you are never ever just doing one thing, you maybe doing one thing, pc is doing lot of stuff in the background.

2. even if you were doing one thing and only one thing, lets say gaming, and one game, you are still looking at hitching and etc while gaming.

In short if you look at my config, I try to give people most perfomrance their money can buy, so if I'm telling you that you need a ssd to balance teh system's power trust me you need it to do so, if hybrid or raid on hdd could do it and save you money then that is what I would have recommended but they can't so you don't see me recommend it.

also as I mentioned you don't have to go dual drive setup right of the bat, either just get the ssd and add teh 1TB bc later.

hdd setup is like this:

HDD1 = fast small drive: os/apps/games

HDD2 = regular large drive: media/personal/work file storage

reason for that is that you want the stuff that take advantage of speeds on the fast drive and stuff that does not goes on a drive that is for storage.

this helps with management, backups, scans and etc, and in case of drive failure you dont lose all data.

If you are not an employee, what is the incentive? Just for fun? I understand that I guess. Like I said, it doesn't matter really.

All I want to know is if ignoring the SDD will lower the actual frame rates. Several people here say it will not http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/261883-32-gaming. I can't just trust that it will lower framerates or limit in game performance, especially when a quick google search piles on opinions to the contrary.

To me a slight increase in minimum frame rate when a badly designed game has to go search for a texture is not worth the exorbitant cost.

Ok well I'm gonna act like you didn't post a link to tom's, they have zero creditability, I would recommend you never look at what those idiots have to say.

the net is full of bs info that is why some of us are here.

what is the intensive, we have found a good builder that builds good pcs with quality parts, so we want to help customers get the right parts for their money, we like to see good builders stay and crappy builder to go away.

AT the end of the day I can only give you facts, the net is full of bs info, its your option what to go with.

in some games ssd will make a difference in fps, but that is not all that goes to gaming, if you want smooth gaming then you want a ssd, also in all other tasks ssd helps.

for example did the net or those idiots at toms' explain hitching to you?

fyi back in teh day I was a big member at tom's, I left cause I go tired of all the bs info teh fakesperts gave to people like yourself.

What I'm trying to say is this, if its day outside, you can find thousands of misinformed people tell you its night time and one person tell you its day, now is it night just because thousands of people think so? no, its still day no matter what anybody says, we provide you with the facts here, and facts are ssd will impact your pcs overall performance.

the stuttering that occurs when .1% or less of pixels changes over a span of 5 frames? If so then yes. For games that load as you play, MMOs, RPGs, etc there should be a more smooth entrance to a level.

Is this suitable?(80GB Solid State (By: Intel) (Model: X25-M MLC Edition) (Extreme Performance)
I just can't afford the 120gb 320 you recommend, but this is less than a hundred dollars over the hybrid set-up.

As the character runs through the world, you could clearly see the hitching of the character as new assets would stream in

that is lot of hitching, red is hdd and blue is ssd, keep in mind each game is different and will have more/less.

also the hybrid is around $150 the 320 is $199, why would one want to go with inferior hybrid for $40.

teh x25 is the old gen of the new 320, for your money the 320 gives you more room and better performance.

also with 80GB most of the people here have run out of room with os/apps/games, just fyi.

Are you trying to bring price down on the p67 or x79?

X79. the P67 is an okay price as is.

The price difference within a DS system is 78 dollars. And that is with ONLY the SDD 320 120gb vs the hybrid with 500gb. You can get even more storage for even less cash with a regular Black caviar or something. (eg: barracuda 750gb vs SDD w/ barracuda is extra 251 dollars within a DS system!)

I only recommend good drives with good speeds for their price, so unless I'm trying to save you cash so that you can get the actual drive later, you won't see me recommend anything else.

but lets look.

ok my x79 is at $4200 ball park, what are you trying to get it down to? lets see what we can do, there is always us going wtih something really cheap and then you adding the actual good stuff later.

The 4.2k build is an ideal, but could you knowingly downgrade parts without getting radioactive? Not in the mind to replace it, I just don't need the "best in the world" such as the Noctua D14 and the Corsair 1200w. I know with a machine like the Terminator it's hard, but give it a a real surgeon's hand and see what you can do to make it closer to the $3500 intended budget. Remember there is that holiday sale on too, which helps

Ok let me clarify, forget my terminator, when I was younger I was on budget of very little money, I build with a fine knife, I keep performance but cut cost.

I'm not giving you best in the world, best in the world would cost atleast $1200 more.

the corsair 1200w is chosen for its relability, if you want to go with an inferior psu go ahead, just keep in mind DS gives you a 3 year labor and 1 year part warranty, so when that psu goes bad, get ready to swap and pay, the ax and hx lines from corsair have a long track record of reliability and perfomrance, and since you want tri sli ability you need a 1200w psu, and since you want reliability and a 7 year warranty, the 1200w corsair psu was recommended, to give you the best psu, cost would be higher and a different psu but it would be waste of your money.

the d14 was chosen for its reliability and performance, I can't tell you the last d14 that broke down, I can tell you I see these self contained units go bad all the time, a few times here and lots on other forums, the a70 does not work right with the x79, so to give you a cpu cooler that has the least chance of breaking down and good perfomrance, you werer recommended the d14, best cpu cooler would run you $500 more, but again its not needed and will be waste of your money.

there is no way anybody can give you a reliable x79 for $3500, and one thing I don't do is recommend parts just based on parts, IMHO a build is only as good as its reliability and your reliability is only as good as your weakest part.

go with dual sli 570, you can always add the third later, the same with 1tb bc:

Here you go Ticket# 639034 --- $3,626 (To see this build click here)

As you may have gathered from how cautious I am and how much I check each part before I am okay with it, I am a frugal guy. But I get the point. You want an awesome three screen beast, you have to pay for it, or its just going to blow up in your face after two years.

I think I will just go all out with the 4.2k build. After savings its only a flat 4k, and sometimes you just have to sell your legs for computing power knowing it aint going to waste and it will be a monster when it arrives. When I saw the only thing you could cut was a graphics card (the MOST important category) I knew this build was at best price:performance as is. As my scottish dad would say if he were here: "FIRE UP THEH BIG BASTARD".

Thanks DST4ME. It's gunna be a killer box.

Oh thats a killer beast no doubt, but let me say a few things:

1. I removed the 1TB hdd and one gpu, and put win7 to premium form pro.

2. the third gpu makes the least amount of difference and its very easy to add.

adding both hdd2 and third gpu are very easy and I/we or DS can walk you thru it if you like.

you said it best:

You want an awesome three screen beast, you have to pay for it

Now you going to spend a lot of money, and this is something only a customer would probably tell you but there are new gpus coming out this month from ati, they are going to be more powerful, but will also cost more, just thought I mentioned it, as I didn't want you to get the system and then see new gpus. I'm not sure if these cards will have an effect on the prices of 570/580 (aka make them lower).

My pleasure

I was aware of the ati cards yes, but i want to stick with Nvidia, and am not the best persont o play "the waiting game" when it comes to hardware. The new GPUs will cost more, and if I have to revamp my system in three years because of some updates, so be it. I can always direct all this power to one screen while I gather funds for the upgrade for future games, right?

And I am no economist, but because of the incredible strength of brand loyalty (read fanboism) within the graphics card market, I would assume the price drops to be minimal within Nvidia cards, at least from the get-go

for one screen that is too much power some of it will not even be noticed.

we recommend you upgrade gpus once every 2 years to keep pc powerful in gaming.

fanboism is very little most people are like myself, I love nvidia but I'm a fan of performance first, I will go to whichever that gives me most stable power for my money.

in short if ati cards are priced good, nvidia will have to respond since their cards are not ready yet, otherwise ati will dominate.

Don't forget to:

Ask DS specifically for this fan to be added to the top, so you endup with 4 x 200mm fans:

haf 200mm non led fan

Ask for vcore lower then 1.4 for your oc.

You mean the 200mm led fan I posted about? if yes perfect, remember you can change the other top fan and the side fan with one of those also, so that they are all led.

above 1.4 cpu death speeds up.

Don't mean to butt in but I just ordered the haf x case with all blue led fans and it was $135 extra (4x 200mm @$30 each and 1x 120mm @$15).
