[Stable, long life, trouble free]

[Personal (non commercial) video editing with content from old 8mm tapes to smart phone clips. DSLR RAW photo editing. No gaming]

Special Needs:
[SSD for programs (250 GB) and 4 TB HDD for storage]

[I'm working with a 6.5 year old custom built first generation I7 Sandybridge, GeForce GTX 560 Ti and 16 GB of RAM. I want another 6-7 years so I'm thinking current generation I5 or I7 or AMD equivalents with something in the neighborhood of a GTX 1050 or 1060 video card.]

So overkill, just about right or not enough?

Appreciate constructive comments and suggestions.

I'm thinking the Lynx Level 3 ("Best") is the best fit at your budget. Comes in at $1399, and has the 16 GB of RAM you'd want and the 240GB SSD. The Ryzen 7 2700 is a very strong CPU, and the X470 motherboard is much better than you would be able to afford in a custom build. The RTX 2060 is a really nice bonus that will help everything.

You could compare that build with a custom Config ID 2380798 that comes in at $1631. It has a bigger SSD and a 4TB HDD, but comes with the GTX 1650, and the motherboard is rudimentary. Copy and paste that config # into the "Load Config" box that opens from the link at the top right of the main DS page.

Hope it helps. Come back with any questions.
