The two posts at the top of this discussion are old, but still relevant. Many of the recommendations are free, ongoing and regularly updated. Pick and choose. There is also Google. Just ask "what software should I get for a new PC?" You will get more lengthy descriptions and links.

I still recommend Windows Security suite for anti-virus. It does a very good job, and surely will never create conflicts.

You don't have to install Windows Security. It comes with the program.

I use Mozilla's Firefox for browser and DuckDuckGo for search engine. Both are better at privacy than Google's or Microsoft's equivalent products.
