It's a fine build, but quite overpowered for gaming. If you wanted to still have very powerful rig, but save quite a bit of $$, I would recommend the Ryzen 5800X. The extra cores you are paying for will not do anything for gaming. Your choice of motherboard may also be quite a bit more than you'll need. I recommend the MSI Gaming Pro Carbon there. One or the other, or both of those adjustments would bring you under budget and allow the truly inexpensive upgrade to 32GB of RAM. It's not a "must have" mind you, but certainly a "nice to have" at only $56. The 850W PSU is more than enough. there's a generous amount of power to spare there.
Like I said, no errors or problems with your build as is, but it's overkill for the job. The 5800X may very well be easier to get sooner than the 5900X. You could inquire about that. The tweaking the OS hearkens back to the days of 1-2GB of RAM, when it would free up some for other purposes. AFIK, it's totally unnecessary, and we don't know what they disable. With 16GB of RAM and an NVMe SSD, you'd never know any difference. Up to you. |

I've been looking at your suggestion of adding the 5800X. Upon looking up the reviews, the processor runs quite hot 10 to 15 degrees warmer then the other 5 series chips. Would the Ryzen 5 5600X be able to handle heavy gaming at 1440p?

Yes. The research is out there. The community is very positive about the price/performance results of the 5600X processor. Not so much this community where everyone tends to strive for the strongest they can afford, but the general response from reviewers, etc.

But what is a gal/guy to do, Cretae? DS comes at us with these "god-like" Aventum Xs, we can't be all like "lemme put a Celeron in that!" |
