Hi guys- the fiance is looking for a new PC in the $1300-$1400 range.. basically would use it for: simple gaming (Sims, Final Fantasy, heavy internet surfing, watching/streaming tv shows and movies, and general work stuff.

she's thinking of the Ode level 2 but would like to see what you guys thought would be a good comparable alternative.  She likes the Enix for the case but its on the pricey side.

thanks!

the 600t is much better case than the enix IMHO.

at that price range, we can't beat teh ode price on the config page, so our recommendation is either gonna be higher price or less performance.

having said that, I'm a bit confused, your budget is in the $1400 range but the ode is $1999.

are we looking at the same ode 2? they have been changed a few times.

what res you guys gaming at?

oops i meant level Ode. you are right. level 2 Ode is ~$2K.

she'd want a nice resolution 1920x1080 since she watches a lot of shows/movies too.

we could explore possibly lower performance to keep within that price range id say $1500 is max.  i dont know that she necessarily needs a i72600k but it definitely packs a punch.

any other thoughts appreciated!

the 2600k we like because of future performance, personally I assume people want to own their pc 3 to 5 years, and I can see a big difference in my pcs that are 3 to 5 years old if I turn off ht, so IMHO in 3 to 5 years the 2600k will have better performance than the 2500k, so that is why most of us including DS will recommend it, and one of few reasons why DS has it in the ode.

Your res is dependent on your monitor, whatever your monitor's native res is, that is the res you want to do everything in.

Just tried to config you a system, and I'm already at around $1800 matching ode lvl 1 specs, and to be honest, I have no reason to tell you to get a lesser pc then what the ode can offer at the same price range, that just would not make any sense, I'm sure you want to get the most power for your money, and we can't beat ode lvl 1 at that, we can give you better psu but its gonna cost more.

300 topsss. a nice monitor would be really ideal, but she prefers a 20inch monitor (nothing bigger) and at the best resolution/ specs possible...i think 1920x1080 native would be good.

Well I like to recommend this 23" cause its a great monitor with great picture quality:

Dell UltraSharp U2311H 23

they have a smaller version but the smaller you go the more you lose some of the specs.

the key is to buy it when it goes on sale, and it goes on sale a lot, $270, $250.

IPS panels have the best picture quality/clarity.
