Topic: New rig any advice? Posted: 22 Jan 2010 at 12:58am |
Ill be using this rig for tv, movies, homeworking, gaming, networking. I play LFD2, CODMWF2, CS:S, CS 1.6. I was going to order from cyberpower but their reviews are either very good or very bad. Digital storm is a bit more than cp but i rather have it done right the first time. I also wanted to know if it would be better to go with Asetek liquid cooling 120mm or the fan i have selected? Would I need the over clocking? I was doing research and they say that the i5 750 overclocks itself when needed? Also is that board good for cross firing later on in the future? I am looking to spend about 1.5-1.7k on this rig.
-Does anyone know what a good monitor is? the LG LED? 22-24in for under 250 Thanks in advance for helping! you are not going to get a good monitor with that price, you will endup with a tn panel which does not have great picture quality, but if that is what is in your budget then you got to go with what you got, you are not alone and its not gonna be that bad.
yes you do need the oc, it makes the biggest difference in speed. you can cf/sli 2 of those cards, but with a 5770 at 1600 x 1200 or 1900 x 1200 you are not gonna get more then 35fps unless you turn down settings and aa and af. post your ticket number so we can look at it |

here is the link for the ticket.
http://www.digitalstormonline.com/comploadsaved.asp?id=376262 The price I have up there is for the rig only. I have money set aside for a new monitor I also have a vizio 32" lcd monitor 1080. Will that work good? Edited by klam55 - 22 Jan 2010 at 2:04am |

if its a monitor and HD then it should be good but I have never seen one so I can't tell and I'm not huge monitor expert either.
that mobo you have piced can only do 8x lanes, so its not the best for cf/sli. drop the case you have picked it sucks. if you can swing this it would be much better system, on this platform you can upgrade the cpu also in a couple of years instead of buying a new pc and it can do cf/sli better, and you are getting double the gpu power so you can play games at highest setting and have a smooth gaming experience: Here you go Ticket# 376279 --- Price: $1808 (To see this build click here) Price after current promotion $1808 Copy of Specifications: Chassis Model: Special Deal Hot Seller - HAF 922 Exterior Finish: - Not Available Trim Accents: - Not Available Processor: Intel Core i7 920 2.66GHz (Quad Core) Motherboard: EVGA X58 Micro Edition SLI (Intel X58 Chipset) (Supports SLI or CrossFire) System Memory: 3GB DDR3 1600MHz Digital Storm Certified Performance Series (Highly Recommended) (Hand Tested) Power Supply: 750W Corsair TX (Dual SLI Compatible) Expansion Bay: - Not Available Hard Drive Set 1: Operating System: 1x (500GB Western Digital (16MB Cache) (7200 RPM) (SATA) Set 1 Raid Options: - Not Available Hard Drive Set 2: Multimedia\Data: - No Thanks Hard Drive Set 3: Backup\Misc.: - No Thanks Optical Drive 1: DVD±R/RW/CD-R/RW (DVD Writer 22x / CD-Writer 48x) Optical Drive 2: - No Thanks Internet Access: High Speed Network Port (Supports High-Speed Cable / DSL / Network Connections) Video Card: 1x ATI Radeon HD 5850 1GB Add-on Card: - No Thanks Sound Card: Integrated Motherboard Audio Extreme Cooling: AIR: Stage 1: Noctua Dual 120mm Fans High Performance Cooler (Compatible With ONLY i7 Processors) H20 Tube Color:- Not Available Chassis Airflow: Standard Factory Chassis Fans Internal Lighting: Internal Chassis Lighting System (Blue) Enhancements: - Not Available Chassis Mods: - Not Available Noise Reduction: - Not Available Boost Processor: FREE: Stage 1: Overclock the processor between 3.3GHz to 3.9GHz (Requires Air Cooling Upgrade) Boost Video Card: - Not Available Boost Memory: - Not Available Boost OS: - Not Available Windows OS: Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium (64-Bit Edition) Restore Kit: Digital Storm Specialized Recovery System (DVD Image Based) Virus Protection: - Not Available Office: - Not Available Benchmarking: - Not Available Install/Test Game: - Not Available Display: - No Thanks Surge Shield: - No Thanks Speakers: - No Thanks Keyboard: - No Thanks Mouse: - No Thanks External Storage: - No Thanks Exclusive T-Shirt: - No Thanks Priority Build: - No Thanks, Ship Within 5-10 Business Days After Order Is Successfully Processed Warranty: 3 Year Platinum Care Extended Parts & Labor Warranty I know its a bit more but in the long run it will save you more money then it costs over the budget. |

Since im gonna pay more than i planned. Should I go ahead and upgrade the fans for the case, and get the Corsair ram instead of the DS one? What is the difference between the haf 922 and the haf 932?

932 is a full tower case has more room for growth and airflow.
don't upgrade case fans, its not needed with the haf. no need for corsair ram, the DS ones are fine. if you gonna change my build, the only thing I would recommend you to change is 3GB of ram to 6GB of ram, and if you can go with a 932 instead of the 922 it would be better, other then that, you are good, just remember the micro mobo maxes out at dual sli/cf |

when you see monitors with the term NEW technology LED sort of bull crap to me, LED's been around forever now on LCD.
besides as a monitor dont worry too much about how bright the thing is, probably would give a massive headache if it's too bright with bad color quality and also Vizio is junk IMHO
and believe me I'm not hating cause I cant afford it. I get 50-60% off retail price for vizio and I still choose to pay for other companies.
If I were you I'd sell that vizio LCD then with that cash + add some more and purchase a decent 24" monitor @ 1900x1200
Image will be much much better.
but if you still want to keep your vizio, I suppose that's your choice nothing wrong with it. but you'll be limited on resolution. and at that size it'll give me a headache ant the distance I'm at from my desk.

I think that is a good idea, a 24" is a great monitor to game on, of course larger is better but I think 24" is very respectable

Yeah larger is better but I agree, 24" just seems perfect and easy on the eye at that resolution

just change the ram to 6GB and the case to 932 on my build.
if you can up the card to 5870 that would be great too: Here you go Ticket# 376497 --- Price: $2082. (To see this build click here) Price after current promotion $2082. I honestly dont know which PSU DS uses or recommends.
but I'd go with corsair
for it's amount of power it's pretty quiet and cool.
and love the module system
