    Posted: 13 Dec 2007 at 2:26pm

Hi,

I am about to take the plunge and replace my aging, 4 year old, off the shelf HP with this beauty below. I want to be able to upgrade it in the future with another 8800 GT in SLI so I have only selected one for right now.

Any one have any suggestions on how to configure this rig better while still keeping it at about $1650? My money tree died or I'd go higher :)

you can get a fairly cheap sound card that will take the audio load off of your processor.

CompUSA is going out of business near me so I plan on picking one up there when they go past their 10% off sale. Hate to see them go but love closing sales.

if you can afford it/ wanted to, you could also go up to stage 2 cooling and select yes please overclock my processor.  It would make a small difference in performance.

If you do overclock, maybe you could spend an extra 15$ for Round Cables by not getting lighting.

When I first started putting my rig config together, I saw that it wasn't too difficult to drop a few bucks here or there on one item to get something more significant.

If you're going to over clock, go with the A1 revision board. You'll see a much better over clock that way. Also, if you're going to go SLI in the future, you're going to want at least an 850W power supply. Otherwise, it's a great config.

It's all ordered! Woohoo! I upped the cooling and the power supply for future expansion. Now what to do while I pass the time and wait for it to arrive? Cry

its not much more money for them to overclock your processor, unless you planned on doing it yourself or dont want it at all
