Greetings.

Been looking around this site and forums for a bit and decided that advice can never hurt as I keep changing what I am looking at for a setup and though I know more or less what is what, I don't know it all.  So any and all help is appreciated.

Budget:  Really want to stay around 2500 and be less than that really but I am a bit flexible with that.

Expectations:  Pretty much nothing but gaming and some video watching.

Usage:  I play SWTOR, WOT, BF3, Skyrim and am looking to really get what I can from them, Ultra setting would be great but not neccesary if really pushing the budget.

Special Needs:  I have a small area where the rig will be so cooling could be an issue, noise does not bother me too much.

Some general stuff:

I have read that pretty much at this time, six cores would do really nothing unless I was doing heavy multi-media type stuff which I am not, just looking for thoughts on that.

SLI- This is where I show a bit of lack of knowledge, always been a one video card type of a guy, lol.  I know it is more expensive but can someone tell me what the real advantage is with this against a single card with a lot of power and RAM?

Looking at the two types of OPS as they call them for chassis, extreme and black I think it is, I am assuming that the difference is just the chassis themselves since I can pretty much get the same build in any chassi.

One other thing to mention is that I can save some money thanks to gift cards and cash from Xmas and get like 120 GB SSD, any reccomendations on which one might be best or I can use it to get more RAM or another video card.  I could also swap over my current GTX 550 TI to save money but I am thinking that is starting to get a bit underpowered now.

Thats all I have for now, thanks for any help or advice.

Well we need to know the res you game at so we know what it takes to max it, from that we will know if you need sli or not.

the advantage of sli over single card is that for example there is no single card that will trump sli 570 right now, and if you need more then a single card's perfomrance then you need sli, for example most likely for bf3 and max settings you need sli 570 (depending on your res).

for sli 570 and no ssd you looking at right around your budget, the ssd you can always add later your self, or you can go ssd and add the second 570 later yourself.

let us know your res and if sli is needed how you like to proceed.(aka you go sli now and add ssd later or get ssd now and add second gpu later).

Or you can drop in your 550 in this one now and get new gpus when they come out in april.

if you have a small area and cooling will be an issue, then you said you gonna have temps issues, these systems are no joke and not a dell or hp or those kinds of pcs, these pcs/parts are highend and need good amount of room to breath, you need to place them in a place where there is plenty of room and airflow unless you are looking for headaches.

Thanks for the reply DST4ME.

And sorry I thought I had put the res in there.  It is 1920 x 1080 though I am looking also to maybe get a new monitor in the near future that could do 2560 x 1440 though that is up in the air so I want to be able to do that.

Also looking again at the builds I might bump myself up to 3000.

What are these new gpus coming out and is there a price estimate by chance?

I think I will be ok with cooling, I have a Microtel Velocity and have had it for 4 years and never had it crash or overheat, in fact it has probably been the best PC I have had and scratch the no crash I remember the OS did but that was crappy Vista and not the PC's fault, been gold since I went to 7.

But your MV pc does not have the performance of these pcs, is the cpu oced on it? if yes what is the oc speed on it and what is the cpu? is it dual gpu? (todays gpus have more heat).

for 2560 x 1600, you can go forth two ways, you can go dual sli with option of tri sli, or you can just go dual sli no tri sli option.

for dual sli it would be sli 570 2.5GB, and for tri sli its the same you just have the option of adding a third.

tri sli can be done correctly on x79 and not p67, and x79 right off the bat is more expensive and comes with 6 cores, the dual sli goes on p67/z68 and will cost less.

for $3000 we can do dual sli 570 on p67, but to be on x79 and tri sli, budget will need to be much higher.

for dual sli it would be this:

Here you go Ticket# 647721 --- $2,919 (To see this build click here)

Ask DS specifically for this fan to be added to the top, so you endup with 4 x 200mm fans:

haf 200mm non led fan

Ask for vcore lower then 1.4 for your oc.

gpus are not out so any idea of performance would be pulled out of ones behind, and so will pricing, so I don't want to give you bad info and I have no idea of performance gain or price on them right now, we know the 7970 for ati just came out, its not that much better then current cards but pretty much cost an arm and a leg.

Thanks for the setup look, that is well done.

I think going tri sli is a bit overkill for me at this time and I would think with needed changes to processor and motherboard would push it close to 4000 so that is too much.

I do have a couple of options with the video as I said before I have gift cards from Xmas so I can do a couple of things.

I could still do dual sli with the 570s but only have them give me one card while I get the other and put it in myself and that would save me 500 almost.  My question would be, if there was any issue with doing it that way, like would I just need to as DS to make sure it is sli ready or is it that way to begin with?

The other thing would be to just drop to one like a 580 3 gb knowing I would not get the higher resolutions or ultra settings but I could live with that because again I can get it with the Xmas money and that would save me about 800 off that build.

I think in the long run I would rather have the dual sli as that gives me more options with resolutioins, settings, and monitors but just throwing these two out for opinions.

Thanks for your help to this point it has helped me a lot

Never mind about the 580, after looking around at some of the other threads, seems like it is the black sheep not talked about amongst the family.  Have a buddy who got one and loves it.

Problem with 580 vs 570 is that where it counts they are only like 2 to 6 fps difference, so 580 is not worth the extra cost, sli 570 will eat a single 580 for snack, there is no comparison there, sli 570 needs to be compared to sli 580, again the difference is very little where it counts.

your best option I guess is to go single 570 and add the other second one yourself. for this you just need a second gpu, your power cables will either be already behind the mobo or come extra with the your system, your sli bridge will should also come extra with the system and those are all you need.
