Hello Everyone,
I'm seriously considering a DS Slade gaming rig. I'm looking for quiet performance. Budget: $2500 max for computer only. Could go a $100 or so higher if justified. Expectations: Single monitor, quiet performance gaming at 2560 x 1440. Usage: Gaming only. I use my iMac for all other activities. I spec'ed two SSD drives and no hard drive, because I only have a small number of games installed at any given time. Typical gaming interests include Lord of the Rings Online, World of Warcraft, Guild Wars 2, Skyrim, Diablo III, Starcraft II, Dragon Age, etc., with plans for Elder Scrolls Online. Special Needs: 2560 x 1440 resolution gaming with very high to ultra performance. I'm very sensitive to computer noise, so I want a super quiet gaming rig. I will be using a Mid-2010 Mini Display Port iMac as my monitor, so I plan to use a Display Port to Mini Display Port cable as recommend by lusiphur (thanks again). I have spec'ed the following Slade: Edit: I'll probably add DS HydroLux Thermal Management Control Chassis Model: Special Deal Hot Seller - Corsair Obsidian 550D Exterior Finish: - Standard Factory Finish Trim Accents: - Standard Factory Finish Processor: Intel Core i5 4670K 3.40 GHz (Unlocked CPU) (Quad Core) Motherboard: ASUS Sabertooth Z87 (Intel Z87 Chipset) (Features Thermal Armor and Thermal Radar) System Memory: 16GB DDR3 1600MHz Corsair Dominator DHX (High-Performance) Power Supply: 750W Corsair CX Expansion Bay: - No Thanks Optical Drive: DVD-R/RW/CD-R/RW (DVD Writer 24x / CD-Writer 48x) Storage Set 1: 1x (128GB Solid State (By: Samsung) (Model: 840 Pro Series) Storage Set 2: 1x (128GB Solid State (By: Samsung) (Model: 840 Pro Series) Storage Set 3: - No Thanks RAID Config: - No Thanks RAID Card: - No Thanks Internet Access: High Speed Network Port (Supports High-Speed Cable / DSL / Network Connections) Graphics Card(s): 1x NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780 3GB (Includes PhysX) Sound Card: Integrated Motherboard Audio HPC Processor: - No Thanks Extreme Cooling: H20: Stage 2: Digital Storm Vortex 120mm Radiator Liquid CPU Cooler (High-Performance Edition) H20 Tube Color:- Not Applicable, I do not have a FrostChill or Sub-Zero LCS Cooling System Selected Chassis Fans: Standard Factory Chassis Fans Internal Lighting: - No Thanks Airflow Control: - No Thanks Chassis Mods: - No Thanks Noise Reduction: Noise Suppression Package Stage 2 (Optimized Airflow & Fan Speeds with Noise Dampening Material) LaserMark: - No Thanks Boost Processor: Stage 1: Overclock CPU 4.0GHz to 4.4GHz Boost Graphics Card(s): - No Thanks, Please do not overclock my video card(s) Boost Memory: - No Thanks, Please do not overclock my memory Boost OS: - No Thanks, Please do not tweak the services on the operating system Windows OS: Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium (64-Bit Edition) Recovery Tools: Windows Recovery Toolkit (Bundled with Windows CD) Virus Protection: - No Thanks Office: - No Thanks Game: - No Thanks Display: - No Thanks Surge Shield: - No Thanks Speakers: - No Thanks Keyboard: - No Thanks Mouse: - No Thanks External Storage: - No Thanks Edited by GreggC - 04 Oct 2013 at 7:53pm |

I've actually been considering a very similar rig with a very similar budget, so a lot of the advice I've been getting might be useful for you as well. You can find my thread here:
http://www.digitalstormonline.com/forums/quiet-powerful-future-proof-system-tidf21121/ One piece of advice I received is that the Slade (550D) doesn't need Noise Suppression Stage 2 - it already has noise-dampening materials built in - so you can drop that back down to Stage 1. |

Thanks for the comments, Counsel. Much appreciated.
I was wondering about the Stage 2 Noise Reduction. I'll just nix that and go with Stage 1. Thanks. I'll conducer the comments in your thread, also. GreggC |
