Hi all, New here but building a system.
1. DS told me that to get liquid cooling for a CPU and Dual GPUs there was a three month wait. What Air coolong do I need to keep things cool? Not willing to wait 3 months.
2. Is the Samsung 24" monitor a good monitor and HDCP compliant? I see many of you don't include a monitor with your orders -- is there a better selection in the 23/24 inch range? Want the best I can get. By the way, don't want or need TV reciever just want to play some DVD and Blue Ray movies.
Here's my current configuration. Thanks for your input!

DST4ME,
Thanks for the response! This is what I got yesterday:
Hey,
Your system looks great power supply and all except for the water cooling on the video cards that we dont have and ETA is about 3 months.
Best Regards,
James Now, of course I have some more questions.
1. If the i7 920 was meant to run at 3.3 GHz+ why didn't Intel set it there to start with? I guess I'm pretty conservative and don't even change my car tires from OEM specs.
2. Why not two 5870s in crossfire?
2a.Is the 5870 that much cooler that it doesn't need cooling?
3. I know I don't need Windows 7 Ultimate but was really thing about Professional. Does Home Premium have the XP feature?
4. Why don't I want Virus protection? I thought it was pretty much mandatory these days.
5. Why don't I want MS Office? I don't think those apps are built into W7 -- are they?
6. I presume everyone's silence on the Samsung LCD monitor means that it's as good as they come?
Thank you for your tireless patience as I know you've probably answered these questions a million times.

1. Intel clocks their chips to whatever moderate standards they have,m it has nothing to do with how well the chip can do, a 920 oced to 3.8GHz will last you over 7 years, are you gonna even have this pc in 7 years?
2. at your res you have no need for crossfire with a 5870, you will get 50 to 60 fps with most games which means smooth gaming, adding another card will not bring any noticable differences, unless you play games like crysis and such. 2a. all gpus have fans on them, you never need LC, unless for some reason you are dealing with lot of heat that air can't handle. 3. no it does not, but most things should work in win7, and if needed, you can always just run a virtualization app like VMware to run apps in another os, and there is always just having xp and those apps in a separate drive, and just swaping drives, the hailstorm comes with 4 hotswap bays and is perfect for this kind of things. 4. you do want virus protection and a firwall but you don't want a bloated one, you want one of the best, thats why you want ESET Smart Security, it has a 30 day full free trial, try it first then buy a license after 30 days, its way better then mcafee. 5. get all those little things like ms office and your monitor and mouse and etc from a place like newegg so that you save money, they cost more here. 6. that is a good monitor, but I'm not a monitor expert, people that are good with monitors tho say that a sign of a good panel on a monitor is a monitor that has the same Viewing Angle, both vertical and horizontal, and above 170°. hope that helped, if you have more questions ask away. so they waterblocks for the gpus will take 3 month to come out? ouch, didn't know that. wait koolance has a block for them here, why don't you ask them to use this block. |

DST4ME,
Thank you!!!!! That clears up a lot.
Don't know if I'll have this new computer in 7 years or not, the one I'm on now is a 2002 Alienware, been holding out for W7 to come out
![]() Guess I won't ask for GPU water cooling just CPU.
Been a while since I set up a new computer and had forgotten about newegg, Darn, more internet shopping -- oh well.
Thanks again.

the EK blocks are out, and have been out for a while, the swiftech blocks are 2-3 weeks out for there top end ones, but the bottom end have been out before the cards were available. And who cares about koolance blocks.

here is one from 2 weeks a go, mounted up and ready to go
the owner is from CO. so they are in the USA
And Koolance makes a waterblock, but I would rather pay $500.00 for a swiftech, than get a koolance for free.

realy? in pics it looks like its a bit different, if you are 100% sure that is great news, cause I can just use the waterblock from the current 3sli classified and drop it in the 4sli, so are you 100% sure?

DS has a test board or something like that I think and they are suppose to be testing it, I like to see if 4 x 295 will fit on that one properly, cause on the current 760/58 the 4th one is touching the third one.
in short no I don't but I think DS does, also the 762 is for sale now on evga's site, so that made me think that builders have a few in stock. Edited by DST4ME - 28 Oct 2009 at 4:41pm |

The 762 will do four with water, just like the other board I told you would before you started.
You will also need a case with 10 exppansion slots... remember. lol

for my use the 16x does not matter, but ya it has the nf200 and I think all 4 are 16x, or is 16x 16x 8x 8x, I don't know to be honest.
ya we figured the cards would fit on that one but then will the 4sli fit in the case with everything I want, the case has only 7 expansion slots, but the cards have single slot brackets, so I think we might need to cut an 8th slot for the last one or it might workout cause its the 1st, 3rd, 5th and the 7th slot that are going to be needed. did I mention how much I hate it when you are right Edited by DST4ME - 28 Oct 2009 at 4:56pm |

but you need a 10 slot case quote from Evga "Important note: a case with 9 or more expansion slots is required, 10 for 4-Way SLI. See this page for a list of compatible PC cases."
time for a mountain mods case. too bad they don't have 10 slot on the horizontal board option... still a great case though Edited by justin.kerr - 28 Oct 2009 at 4:59pm |

Haven't got any 4-way boards in yet, still waiting on EVGA.
4 cards should work in the corsair case, though modifications may be needed. |

you know for some reason I'm having a hard time trying to imagine this in my head, if there are 7 slots, and we are using 1,3,5, and 7, then the 7 expansion slots should work, since as far as open expansion slots go, we are in need of single slots with the numbers stated above, now if it was on air I can undersand why 8 or more would be needed.
so what am I missing here, I can't figure it out
is it that the mobo is taller so its pci slots don't line up 1 to 7 with the corsair's slots? Edited by DST4ME - 28 Oct 2009 at 7:27pm |

you are missing the top 2 slots taken up from above the one you are calling number 1. then the on you need bellow the one you label as 7 so 7 + 2 + 1 is 10 |

what goes above the one I'm calling number one? or are you saying that is the way it will sit in the case? if all we need top make it work is one slot below the one I'm calling 7, then we can make it work from the looks of things.

the slot you are calling 1 would be the 3rd slot down on a case.... rookie. lol so you need a 10 slot case without mods, or a 9 slot with a single mod on the botton GPU... plain and simple

that is what I was saying, the mobo's pci slot is sitting lower then the case's. so then that probably will not work either, not sure there is that much room for mods. might just have to go with 3 x 295.

no magic can make that work, without cutting more slots, and I don't know about room for you power supply. I have done it, but it is hard, an usually does not look perfect. Just go tri, or just wait for tri-fermi... lol

We're switching our liquid cooling system to all high-end parts soon: 1. Compression fittings
2. Replace Koolance with EK video card blocks
3. Chipset liquid cooling
4. Standard 240mm radiators
5. Swiftech high-end CPU waterblock
And, we will carry the ATI waterblocks sooner than we thought. There was some production delays with EK on them.

Compression Fittings (http://www.feser-one.com/site/product_info.php?cPath=78&products_id=314) We were going to go with angle fittings, but, it was driving up the costs a lot
I also forgot to mention, the upgraded liquid cooling system will use a bay based reservoir which also incorporates the high-flow head upgrade for the pump as well.
In addition, we will begin using colored tubing with only clear fluid, this way, the color never deteriorates over time and there is no gunk build up over time from the dyes, etc...

Angled fitting are nice for some builds, they are $$ but they can simplify some loops.
Have you tried primochill pro LRT tubing? I find it to be the best out there...
for a low cost alternative maybe want to look at PrimoChill Ghost Compression Fitting.
They come in colors, work very well, are a lot less money, and do look very well. But not the Bling level of the chrome ones.
For the the new Swiftech CPU block, since it has a very fine pin matrix, distilled water with a silver coil works very well, because of the lower viscosity. something to think about, because it also will make it easier to top off, flush systems down the road.
Which aftermarket pump htop are you going with XSPC? They have one with a built in RES and it works very well, and can cut costs a bit, and not take up a bay slot..
Just throwing out some of my limited wisdom. lol
