First thoughts, drop from the 950 to the 920 and keep the overclock, it'll still be at least 3.2-ish and it's cheaper on your budget. Go with 1333 instead of 1600 memory, you won't notice the difference. I'm not sure the V8 fits in that case, DS would know but go with the HAF-932 for cooling and more space. I'd also recommend the Noctua over the V8 for size and silence. Well.. here..
Chassis Model: Cooler Master HAF 932
Exterior Finish: - Standard Factory Finish Interior Finish: - Standard Factory Finish Trim Accents: - Standard Factory Finish Processor: Intel Core i7 920 2.66GHz (Quad Core) Motherboard: EVGA X58 3X SLI (Intel X58 Chipset) (Supports Triple SLI or CrossFire) System Memory: 6GB DDR3 1333MHz Digital Storm Certified by mushkin enhanced (Highly Recommended) (Hand Tested) Power Supply: 750W Corsair TX (Dual SLI Compatible) Card Reader: - No Thanks Hard Drive Set 1: Operating System: 1x (500GB Western Digital (16MB Cache) (7200 RPM) (SATA) Set 1 Raid Options: - No Thanks Hard Drive Set 2: Multimedia\Data: - No Thanks Hard Drive Set 3: Backup\Misc.: - No Thanks Optical Drive 1: DVD±R/RW/CD-R/RW (DVD Writer 20x / CD-Writer 48x) Optical Drive 2: - No Thanks Internet Access: High Speed Network Port (Supports High-Speed Cable / DSL / Network Connections) Video Card: 1x NVIDIA GeForce GTX 275 896MB (Includes PhysX Technology) Add-on Card: - No Thanks Sound Card: Integrated Motherboard Audio Extreme Cooling: AIR: Stage 2: Noctua NH-U12P High Performance Cooler (Compatible With ONLY i7 Processors) Liquid Color:- Not Applicable, I do not have a H20: Stage 3 Cooling System Selected Chassis Airflow: Standard Factory Chassis Fans Internal Lighting: Internal Chassis Lighting System (Blue) Enhancements: - No Thanks Chassis Mods: - No Thanks Boost Processor: Stage 1: Overclock the processor between 3.3GHz to 3.9GHz (Requires Air Cooling Upgrade) Boost Video Card: - No Thanks, Please do not overclock my video card(s) Boost Memory: Memory Fan Kit Only (Does not include memory overclocking service) Tweak Windows: - No Thanks, Please do not tweak the services on the operating system Windows OS: Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium (64-Bit Edition) Price: $2185 ( $1985 with current promo)
Water cooling with higher OC would be $2265 with current promo. Prolly a better bet. Also, you have more room on the MB here to upgrade as far as rails go and SLI capability in case you want to do that instead of water cool. Though one 275 is really all you'll need at that resolution. Oh.. and you likely won't notice the difference in 6 and 12 gb of ram for another few years.

Would it be better to put 2 hard drives, one for OS and game dejour and another for data (music, photos, etc) or just go with the 500 gb hd. Once again, thanks for the advice.
Regards! |

My pleasure
its best to go with a 120GB OCZ SSD or a Veloci for HDD1 for OS/games/apps and a 500GB for HDD2 for file storage. now since the SSD prices are a big high right now, I figured you go with the 500GB as HDD1 now, then H1 of 2010 you upgrade to a SSD for HDD1 and push the current 500GB to HDD2, this way you pay less for the SSD. all you do when you get the SSD is clone the current 500GB to the SSD and you are good to go. you can follow my clone guide here Edited by DST4ME - 17 Jun 2009 at 10:57pm |

So what would be the difference between the lower end OC and the higher OC? Is it worth the price difference, as in, would you be able to notice. How much of a hassle is the maintenance on the WC system. I am assuming it's more than screwing a hose into the back of the machine, as in messy floor, etc, etc

there is no hassle, you just look at the reservoir once a month and if the fluid level is low you add some fluid, which consist of taking the reservoir off the Velcro and un screwing the cap, total of 2 minutes max.
as for oc difference in games and your resolution you won't notice much of a difference. |

My pleasure boss
on this site you will get a better price with Intel now and Intel has better performance and with Intel you can go crossfire or sli, with AMD you are confined to crossfire and ATI and Nvidia cards will out perform ATI cards. for example the 275 GTX and 4890 are both the same price but the 275 will beat the 4890. |

One last question, then off to sleep to prepare for work. What is the difference between the LC and AC, besides the 6 dollars. The Coolit or Noctua? If I were to choose the LC, I could OC more on the processor? You rock DST
Cheers!! |

if you gonna LC then you got to go with frostbite, otherwise its not worth it, so either go Noctua NH-U12P or go frostbite, the v8 is good to but Noctua is best for air.
with frostbite you get better load temps which can lead to higher OC, but better load temps are always what you want cheers |

Hello Guys...
I am going to take the plunge today, after reading many reviews of SSD hard drives, I want to get my system with one in it. For the best bang for my buck spent, which SSD would you guys recommend in my configuration, and a good back up drive for data storage and such? Thanks in advance for the input, looking forward to ordering my rig today. Mark |

Why the LE motherboard? The EVGA 3x SLI is a better board for a little bit more money.

lol I was refering to Internal Lighting: Internal Chassis Lighting System (Blue), and I was just saying since the front fan is red you might want to pick the internal lighting to be red also. it does not cost anything to do so.
if you read back my previous posts you will see I said:

The solid ssd is not a good choice, the vertex is good, and so is the corsair. For general usage they are both very close in performance. If you are a heavy user, then get the Intel.

Well, wanted to get it done before I went out for the evening with my better half, being it is our anniversary today. So ordered on the phone. Talked to Eric and Duke and they set me up and the ball is in motion. As for the vertex, well I will let you know how the Corsair holds up, being, it was a no go point with the better half. Will post pics and specs when I finally see my rig in 8 to 10 days. Thanks once again for all the help, and look forward to keeping active on the site
