Hello! I'm new to the PC construction scene and would appreciate any help. I'm looking to build a PC around the $2,000 mark, ideally under $2,350. I would like to use the computer for browsing the web, typing up reports and projects (standard Microsoft office stuff), and gaming. The games I have my eye on include Skyrim, WoW, and BF3. I'd like to have BF3 played in the higher settings, but I understand you can't have it all on a budget. I won't be doing any sort of 3D modeling, but I am considering game recording software and putting it out on youtube. Oh! I will also watch Blu-Ray movies as well.

The type of resolution I will be using is 1920x1080.

Here's he config I have come up with after researching quite a bit on the forum:

Ticket # is: 644455

My main concerns are:
- Is the power supply overkill? I'd like my computer to be powered with ease and I have read that the higher power supplies can save money on energy use later down the road. If this is true I am willing to pay a little more to save later.
- I wasn't sure which wireless part to choose. I chose the one typically used in builds that I found in the forums, but does it really matter that much?
- My final concern is with the processor. Is the i5 2500k 3.30 GHz enough? I am worried about overclocking because I read it produces a lot of heat and shortens the lifespan of the chip. Does it really matter if I overclock it to stage 1?

Thanks for reading my post and I apologize if it was a little long. I appreciate any input and criticism, so be blunt if you need to be. I'm pretty willing to learn. Thanks again! I'll reply as quickly as I can.

when you looking at cpu, don't just look at test benches that have nothing to do with our pc environment, test benches test one app/game at a time, we have multiple stuff running, also win7 supports ht, with 2500k you won't be taking advantage of that, also don't just go by how its doing today, you want to own the pc for the next 3 to 5 years, so think about how it will feel then, with apps/games moving toward multi core/thread support, the 2600k will feel more powerful in the future than the 2500k. Also win7 itself uses HT, with 2500k you will be missing out on that.

If all you want is a single gpu system then the 750hx psu is what you want, if you want dual sli ability then keep the 1050hx you got the right one.

You have been reading bad info on the net from users who have no idea what they are talking about:

1. oc when done right will not shorten life of cpu.

2. with a good cooler (a70/noctua d14), the heat from oc is easily dealt with.

let me ask you something, what would happen if I could make you think 10 faster then you do now? you would be able to handle lot more tasks and you also would be able to complete them much faster too right?

cpu is the brain of your pc, ocing it is like letting you think faster. Its the one thing that makes the biggest difference in your pc's perfomrance as you can imagine.

if your voltage to the cpu (vcore) is high (above 1.4), then you can shorten your cpu's life, but what we do is get the highest oc with a vcore below 1.4.

IF you want a single gpu system then go with this :

Ticket Number: 644566

Ask DS specifically for this fan to be added to the top, so you endup with 4 x 200mm fans:

haf 200mm non led fan

Ask for vcore lower then 1.4 for your oc.

your thoughts

Thanks for your help DST4ME. :) I do like the edited parts. I'm just curious if I should get the Noctua cooling, or if it's just overkill? And would adding a fan on top cost more money?

Thanks for helping a complete noob, I apologize if I ask any obvious questions. I really appreciate any help I get.
