I recently ordered a DS build. Curious to hear thoughts on it. My biggest issues post purchase I'm mentally struggling with are the Velox vs Lumos choice, not getting hydro lux cooling and overclocking gpu with air cooling, also warranty. I tried to change the case to Lumos since for my personal space the viewing panel works better but unfortunately the ROG Rampage doesnt fit in Lumos.(?) It is listed as an option on Lumos build configurator though. Oh well I'll figure out the aesthetics and placement part. Thoughts or comments? Much appreciated. Im so excited.
P.S. I was able to use some work from home benefit to reduce cost and get me within budget :D thanks Budget: ~5,000.00 Expectations: Beefy & smooth PC for years to come, future facing and scalable. Question: how do you know the Rampage won't fit a Lumos? It's in the configurator. If I select, there's no warning, and the cases are nearly the same size, so....
Don't have many other thoughts. You're $900 over budget. Are you looking for savings? IMHO, I don't think you get a whole lot of extra performance/value with the most expensive RAM and mobo. I wonder if your purposes might not be better served with a Threadripper build. The 1200W PSU is way more than you need. I calculate your usage at ~ 500W. Lots of overhead left at 850W. My opinion of custom cooling is it's a waste of money and potentially an accident waiting to happen. That's a prejudice. Once your temps are well under safe running guidelines with an AIO and decent case airflow, getting 5-7C below those numbers doesn't mean much. I'm a gamer. I understand power using, but I also understand value for money spent. In two years, everything you may have overspent on today will be way behind the curve. My thoughts. |

Hey thanks. I emailed with a DS customer service rep about case swap and they said it would not fit and that I would need to update to the x299 strix. I thought about the ram and power too but thought at this point, just entering stage 3, it would be too late for the changes. Part of me was looking for savings the other part is purely spoiling myself. I thought long and hard about the threadripper but decided to stay with what has been good to me and for gaming what I think may be better. Own prejudice though, the ripper is nice. |

If it matters, it's not too late for changes. IDK why you wouldn't be happy with the ROG Strix X299. I do get spoiling yourself. Do what you want to do, but I'd change your budget to $6000 before you post.

I may submit a request for alteration and see if possible. To note, I did make it roughly around stated budget with an additional work from home benefit that I get reimbursed. ;) all good feedback

If money's not that tight, then by all means, get what makes you happy.
