not much difference then a 32bit version really PG1.

you got CCleaner?

with your system and power, the only tweaks you need on the OS are things you want to get ride of cause you don't like how they are.

for example you got tweak uac and disabled uac right?

remember on vista 64bit you got 2 program folders, the regular one is for apps that can run 64 bit, then there is another one that is has a x86 in its name, that program folder is for apps that run in 32bit only.

so when an app asks you were to install, make sure you install it in the right place.

well most apps specify what OS they run on.

but if you think something is 64 bit and you install it in the 64 bit program folder, but its not a 64 bit app, vista will run it as 32 bit anyways, if you look in your task manager, under processes, the 32bits will have a "x86" next to them.

you vista 64 by default has 2 program folders, you don't have two?

aslong as you don't install the 64 app in teh x86, you should be fine.

I just started with Vista and SP1, Geek, that pretty much sums it up.

Fortunately I still have XP Pro with SP3 on my old, tired AMD64 FX @ 2.6 box but , sadly, it has a rough time with FSX. Sigh!

there is not a damn thing wrong with vista, thousands are using it just fine.

lets ask all the people on this board alone that have vista if they share your view

IF you couldn't figure it out, don't blame the app, its doing just fine for many others.

say I didn't like vista, dont' say vista is crap, cause there is nothing wrong with it.

I was talking to you not FT.

and I can edit my post if I want, you can holdon to the original if you like.

the funny thing is that you are responding to my post after I edited it out, I guess the fact that I edited it, didn't mean anything.

you can call me what ever you like but the facts don't change, if you can't use the app, don't blame the app, otherwise explain how so many of us use it just fine.

and I correct people because I want people to have the correct info and be knowledgeable, a well informed customer.

I think we all know who the "jf" is

atleast I had enough curtasy to edit what I wrote one minute after I wrote it, you are directly attacking.

you said:

All I said was don't' say vista is full of sh*t, cause its not. just say I didn't like vista, I like XP better. you are suggesting vista 64 is inferior, which its not, it can see more ram, which means it used all of system resources, thus making it the better OS.

also me and PG1 are discussing apps on vista, there is no need for people to come and spam offtopic stuff.

you didn't like it, thats fine,

this thread is about apps on vista, and now about who likes xp or who does not like vista.

as for following you, correct me if I'm wrong, but me and PG1 were having a conversation and you are the one that came to our topic and made offtopic remarks. So if anybody is following anybody, in this thread you would be following me.

I'm keeping cool and not really responding David, do you agree, I mean if he called you jerk-off, would you agree my response is a calm one?

I mean I didn't respond the fist time he called me it, and here he is doing it now the second time in this thread.

@HM I edited my post caues I realized it came off wrong and thats not what I meant by it, you saw it was edited yet you said what you said.

what he is talking about is offtopic anyways, me and PG1 are discussing vista apps and all of a sudden he is talking about vista being sh*t out of the blue, its not even on topic.

Well, regardless, play nice please.

I've run into very few problems running things on Vista. I've also been using it exclusively since Feb '07, and have had no real complaints on it. Except my most recent thread in tech support, but..... that's more my fault than anything else.

Paraguy, I've noticed that 32bit programs will auto install into the x86 folder. I haven't had to do anything special to get 32bit programs to run on Vista. Hope it helps.

That is correct,

Vista 64 automatically determines if the program natively supports 64 bit or not and ferrets the program into the standard program files directory or the x86 directory for 32 bit programs. You do not need to know anything about that.

I will tell you when installing games, install them on a seperate drive or at least in a 'Games' folder on your drive if you have only 1 drive, Vista in order to protect the sanctity of programs restricts access to the 'Program Files' directories. This is in response to malicious programs that were modifiying program executables to infect them. It has the unintended side effect of making some older games that store user data in the program files directory tree fail. Newer games do not tend to have this issue, but I prefer to install on a seperate drive in a standard location anyway, makes it easy to keep all my games in one spot because I do notback up game executables, no need, they are on CD/DVD and easy to recover. Saves space on my backup media.

As far as the ever present Vista - XP debate. Vista is raftloads better. On my hardware I notice zero difference as will most everyone here running a modern system with vista certified hardware. It is a non-issue at this point, XP is inferior if only for 1 reason, it is entering sunset support, which means no updates soon for even critical security flaws that are discovered. In my book, that alone makes it a poor choice.

you can't be ignorant about something you have not used before boss its called a learning process.

if after you learned everything and then you still can't use it, then you might be ignorant, but I know you are not.

its a new OS boss, takes a bit to get used to you are so tough on yourself boss, give a bit of time you will be cruising thru it faster then you do XP

don't ask me how long it took me to figure out the 2 folders

Awesome thanks for the link. Was able to disable two programs during startup. Ran CC cleaner and cleaned up some junk too. Hopefully it will boot faster like it did when I first got it lol.

How often do you recommend running CCleaner?

i have absolutly no problems with vista at all. i love the interface, i love the look, the aero looks awesome. its more organized, and seems way more professional. my only complaint is the uac.or whatever it is called when it dims you screen every 2 seconds to ask if somethings ok. once you disable that , i find it to be almost exactly like xp with an updated look and feel. people have their opinions, but imo people who hate on vista , are the people who havnt fully used it and seen its potential and what not.

just my 2 cents on all this
