Topic: New, wanting to order an Aventum. Have questions. Posted: 31 Dec 2018 at 4:33pm |
Hi,
So I saw a Linus video on the Aventum and decided I had to have that system. Also, does it ship in that big crate like in the Linus video? One thing I liked about O******** is they have a hell of a shipping box/crate. TBH I wish DS would adopt the same. A few questions and maybe if you like feel free to give suggestions on what I have spec'd up so far. First, I noticed I cant order the case with glass sides, I assume this is the "new" Aventum X which is not out? Although I did some googling and saw you can request it by asking in the notes section of your order? This correct? Second, and mostly my biggest concerns, are water cooling. Im not PC illiterate by any means, I work in a big datacenter/office and deal with thousands of systems, BUT I have very little experience with water cooling except a box I built about 15 years ago. So I can find my way around hardware etc. I would build my own, but really you cant create on your own the work of art that is the Aventum (X?) Thing is I worry about watercooling. That system I had 15 years ago had leak issues and caused some serious issues. Now correct me if I'm wrong, but if I DO get a leak, its no big deal because distilled water doesn't conduct right? How common is it for systems to have leak issues from rough shipping? How often do the systems leak? I have to make a choice between a Hardline or Flexible tubing, and my understanding is the flex tubing is far less likely to develop leaks, in shipping or otherwise. Also the flex tubing has quick connect fittings versus the hardline, and is easier to do upgrades or repairs on? But at the same time, that hardline tubing is damn SEXY. I just worry too much. Thoughts? Also, is there a service port for the hardline? How do you drain it if you have to repair or upgrade something and disconnect tubing? Has anyone dealt with their "Bread" finance partner? How are they? Anyway, thanks for taking the time to answering my questions. Pretty sure some of the DS vets will be along. But I will give my 2 cents on a few things: The Aventum gets shipped via expensive freight shipping (oh my) and unboxing vids have the weight of the box around 150lbs. A little glimpse here. I did get the upgrade from 3 to X by calling and asking, its a $100 upgrade cost so its on you whether you want that or not, seeing as its already an expensive machine (yet so beautiful). For all your watercooling answers... anyone should know its a small chance but leaks can happen, Im worried about that too so I opted for the soft tubing as its easier for the long run on maintenance and upgrades. I dont believe there is a quick disconnect option for the hardline Ive tried and asked but their customer service this holiday has been near nonexistence (frustrating to say the least) so prepare and gather all your questions at once and make sure they get back to you on them. As for bread financing (which I did) its simple and easy, they are pretty friendly and there are plenty of options to choose from, I opted for the 3 months 0 APR option as I just really wanted to break up my payments and not put it all on one credit card at once. As for your build, what are you planning on doing? Gaming? Editing? Also I would recommend to get rid of the airflow control and switch to their free/promotional lighting option as you can do alot with just the BIOS settings (or programs) it'll save you a few bucks and I would use that extra 100 for something else if you like.

Great answers from Seabasthegreat. Virtually all the requests we see for help with leaking "water" cooling involve the hardline. (It's not water., it's non-conductive coolant.)
I'd recommend you consider the MSI Gaming Pro Carbon motherboard just for quality and better customer service should you ever require any when the DS warranty expires. Same for the Samsung 250GB 970 Pro vs Adata. Five year warranty from the recognized leading brand. I agree with dumping the airflow control to finance these small changes. It's wholly unnecessary. I took the same option with Bread, and they were great in servicing my account. Because of holidays and weather last winter, two of my checks didn't get through on time and they were very helpful in getting it sorted out without assuming it was me. |

Hey thanks for the answers. Yes I kinda figured its non-conductive liquid, but I mean, we fill it with distilled water right?
I would have no problem paying $100 for the Aventum X case. I mean whats $100 on a ~$5000 machine anyway. Reason
I picked Adata was the write speeds, the 970 Evo I must have missed, so
Ill change it. I have loads of SSDs at home that are going to be put in
the machine when it gets here. When you say
Airflow control you mean the custom board? I kinda wanted that for the
thermal lighting so its required. Kinda just frills I know, but Im a
sucker for gimmicky stuff. I plan to do a bit
of everything. Ill probably run my virtual machine laab off the
computer, gaming, and a bit of video editing on top of it. I also do VR a
bit. Went with Ryzen because Im hoping the 3rd
Gen Ryzen uses the same slot, which Im pretty sure they will, and Intel
9700k doesnt do threading (Damnit Intel). As for Bread. Do they take online payments? I hate writing checks. |

Also I have been shopping around and the only other vendor I would consider is -------. Both DS and ------- seem great. DS has the sexier looking computer, Origin I think has the better customer service and shipping. (Free shipping on warranty returns etc, shipped in a legit crate).
EDIT: Competitor name removed.

The choice of words for non-conductive is used because saying water
could confuse some. Honestly unless your using some sort of editing or heavy multithreadiing task (I do a bit of 3d modeling and animation) the whole AMD vs Intel war never really mattered to me, I personally just pick intel because I game more anything else. As
for the Airflow/Lighting control try Config # 2182111. Same as what you had I just switched out the airflow, talking to DS Customer Service, they said you dont really need it and its the same as the other lighting options though I would ask DS just in case. Bread takes a checking account # OR do what i do and pay via phone every month with a debit card. I
Also the Aventum gets shipped via freight due to its weight and fragile nature. (150lbs of pure computer porn). But this also adds a whooping 300-400 charge on shipping.
feel your pain between ------ and DS, I had prior excellent experience with DS AND like you loved their Aventum look (unique case only to DS) word of caution for their customer service from what I understand theres only one guy answering the phone/email. So patience is key. There is also a disconnect between customer service the ACTUAL tech guys who deal with all the computer stuff, thus the usual "I went ahead and email so and so" which is common just about anywhere but can lead to long waits for answers. Yep ordered an Aventum myself and agree totally with Seabasthegreat! And on the thermal control/lighting I myself was wondering what that really does? Doesn't the BIOS already come with such control on the fans and cooling pump?
I have also had some problems getting in touch with the DS team on the phone but I assume its due to the holiday rush and plenty of people calling. Are you planning on playing in 4k or 2k? That 2080ti card is an expensive beast!! (Im jelly) |

1440p. I have a 4k OLED but tbh I dont really care about 4k. Mostly its for VR that I want the GPU.

Hey looks like the Aventum X is available. Good timing.
Does the PC ship in the big crate box as shown in the reviews? I really wouldnt trust UPS to not break something just shipped on a pallet. |

These units that are shipped on pallets, AFAIK, are sent "Freight" not UPS or FedEx. And yes, that affords them a bit more stability. However, things can still get stacked ON them so make sure you investigate the top of the box when you receive it.
