So I've put together a system and I'm hoping some knowledgeable folks can help me with some questions I have about it. I'm going to be using my current speakers, mouse, and keyboard with it. I'm going to buy a new monitor that will be 1920x1080 (I see DS has monitors, but I was kind of put off by the lack of details on the monitors).
http://www.digitalstormonline. First, would I be able to run two monitors with this setup? I have a 19" monitor now and I want to upgrade to a 24" one. But I was thinking, why not use them both? I'd also like a reasonably quiet computer (or at least not a loud one), so please tell me if I messed up there. I also don't want to worry about overheating. So again, if I messed up... I was actually ready to go to $2000 (w/o monitor before taxes). But after I finished customizing I was rather happy to see that I was a decent amount below that. So if there are any upgrades that I should really consider, please tell me about them. Because I can be convinced (probably too easily ). |

All in all that config looks fairly good, but I would make a few slight but notable tweaks.
That case is cramped and a bit lacking in air flow, I would recommend the HAF 922 for a budget case. Or the HAF 932 for even more air flow and room, but a bit more into 'splurge' territory. The EVGA x58 Micro motherboard for the most part only has two PCIe lanes. Technically it has more but they will all be blocked off by two-slot GPUs in the two primary lanes. If you're fine with just two (x16) lanes and don't think you will need any more for expandability the Micro is a great board, but if you think you'd like more expansion lanes then switch to the EVGA x58 LE which is mostly the same board but with more PCIe lanes and costs +$29. You have a 40GB Intel SSD selected for OS/apps. Excellent choice. ![]() The Asetek Liquid CPU coolers are fairly crappy, bad quality and cooling performance. They are liquid cooling just for the sake of saying liquid cooling, either of the Noctua air coolers will outperform them, with the smaller Stage 1 Noctua being the better bang for the buck budget buy. I would drop the free OS tweak. The disabled services or visual effects are barely even a blip on the radar of an overclocked 930 processor and you can easily miss out on helpful or nice looking things by disabling them. Better to just tweak the OS to your preferences on your own. And lastly, the GTX 470 is insignificant for maxing games at a resolution of 1920x1080 or 1920x1200, move up to the more powerful 480. Both the 470 and 480 will support up to two monitors. All in all the sum of my suggestions would end up looking like this: Ticket #417721, Price: $1952 Digital Storm may be having a July 4th sale soon, which they usually do around most holidays. Usually this will be a free upgrade to the 4 year labor 2 year parts warranty. So that's a potential $99 bonus if you can hold off ordering for another week. |
