Hello everyone!

So this is not my first gaming PC, as I’ve had a prebuilt before from CP and that’s lasted me a good few years but it doesn’t run quite as well now and I’ve decided I wanted something new! After a lot of research I decided on going with Digital Storm for my next PC. However, I’ve never had a CUSTOM built PC so picking all the parts that will hopefully give me a solid gaming experience while not trying to break the bank and also trying not to go too cheap was stressful and as I patiently wait in stage 2, I can’t help but worry that I didn’t pick good enough componets(again because I have no idea) and looking through the forums so many of you seem a lot more in the know than me so I was hoping to get some opinions on the build and see if there’s anything I should definitely change for better performance before it’s too late!

Here are my specs…

That looks like a good build to me. The only upgrade I would recommend is moving up to the Samsung 980 Pro NVM Express storage. It costs $135 more, but it's about 3 times faster than what you have selected. That being said, your current build will already be pretty darn fast.

By the way, what's the resolution of the monitor that you'll be using? That will help the rest of us figure out if your video card selection is appropriate.

That’s so good to hear! I’ve been so worried that I’ve spent this much and dropped the ball on picking the right parts so I’m glad to know that this should be a fairly good build! I’m definitely going to look into that upgrade you mentioned because for 3x the speed it’s not much more.
This is the minor I’m currently using with my old pc and will be using for a bit but I definitely want to upgrade to a 4k monitor soon!

I think the RTX 3070 will be fine for your 27" display. However, if you plan on upgrading to 4K, then I would recommend the 3080 or 3080 Ti.

I suppose you could get the 3070 now, and then upgrade the card later when you get a 4K display. That might make sense, because by the time you upgrade the next generation of cards might be out.

The 3070 is a poor choice here. It is total overkill for ANY 1080p monitor, yet underpowered for 4K.

The sweet spot for gaming is definitely a 1440p at 27", and I recommend you check into that for yourself. Wait the 7 months or less to see the new cards before you buy to power one of those.

For what you need to get killer performance at 1080p and also bridge the gap to solid results at 1440p, you want the 3060 Ti. here's how the two cards compare:

https://gpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Nvidia-RTX-3070-vs-Nvidia-RTX-3060-Ti/4083vs4090

No way there's an extra $330 worth of value in that 7%, and you won't need a 3070 for 1080p, anyway! Save that money for when you have a clearer idea of what you really want for your next monitor and shop the next generation of cards. They will kill anything in the same class when they arrive.

Another big savings you can have is $230 on your CPU. For gaming, the 12700 is every bit as strong as the 12900. The extra cores are of no consequence in gaming.

https://cpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Intel-Core-i9-12900K-vs-Intel-Core-i7-12700K/4118vs4119

Plenty of savings there to power up with a Samsung 980.

Thank you for that wonderful and detailed advice! I definitely want to make sure my build has great components but I also don’t want to spend a lot of extra money if it’s just overkill and not providing me any benefits! I will try and call DIgital Storm today so that I can swap my graphics card and storage for your guy’s recommendations! Then I will just check out the new cards and upgrade when I upgrade my monitor.

So happy to help!

Traditionally, DS welcomes changes so every customer gets just what they want. The change shouldn't hold anything up unless it's to something that's not in stock ATM, or you're well into Stage 4. I'm confident the parts you want are available.

I got on the phone with them yesterday when they opened and they were super helpful, changed my parts out with no problem and to top it off a couple hours later my order even went into stage 3!
