I recieved my DSO system yesterday, and spent last night setting it up. I'll be posting a review/summary of my experience once I get more impressions, but for now I had a question.

I have Boston Acoustic 7500G 5.1 computer speakers that I bought with a Gateway some 10+ years ago. They've served me well, and through yesterday continued to. One quirk about them I've noticed, as I've moved them from computer to computer, is that they require a digital audio jack. All 5.1 channels are run through the same digital line. My old sound card was an Audigy 2, for example, and besides the mic, front speaker, back speaker, etc lines, there was a digital out. Thats the only one these speakers would work in.

So now with my new system I got the Nforce 650i card with RealTek Audio, and I'm confused whether or not they offer a Digital Out Jack. The RealTek Software seems to think they do, it shows "Speakers" as well as "Digital Output" as options for my sound. The software shows an array of 6 colored analog audio jacks, two "front" jacks, and two digital jacks (in/out). As I look around my computer though I can locate the 6 colored rear jacks, and I see the two jacks up front, but the Orange and Black Digital Audio Output jacks seem to elude me.

I'm guessing this board doesn't actually have Digital Out? Or is there someway to force one of the 6 colored audio jacks to be Digital (the software website seems to say I can make any audio jack function as any other, though I haven't figured out how)?

Of course I tried my speakers in every jack, to no avail. My cheapo headphones, however, work in the center speaker audio jack as expected.

So if I'm correct and the board doesn't have a digital out, then would my options be either:

a: buy a sound card that offers digital out

or

b: buy new speakers that don't require this digital signal

Thanks for the input, sorry if any of this is unclear, I'm obviously winging it :)

The motherboard does offer a SPDIF (digital output). Look at the connector next to the 6 audio jacks. It has a white cover. The orange output you're referred to is a rca connector (coaxial) but the Nvidia motherboard may have  a Toslink connetor (optical). You'll need a coaxial to optical converter to connect to the Toslink output if this is the case.

Here is a picture from review sites, but this is what mine looks like from the back. 4 USB, Ethernet, 6 audio. Keyboard/Mouse.  Seems like no Digital?
