I received my new rig today, and set-up is going pretty well except I can't get the sound to work.I have new Logitech x-540 speaker system.I have confirmed the three color coded plugs are correct, power is confirmed, and vista volume slider is turned up.
I called DS and was told that since I didn't buy the speakers from them there wasn't anything they could do to help me. Does anyone know of any obvious thing I have overlooked or perhaps solved a similar problem?
Thanks in advance for any help,Steve Perkins

I would think they should help you cause you never know, it could be the card lol.  Call them again because it might just be the card and if you need a driver.  If they put in the card then surely they need to support it, regardless, because you never know...it could be the card LOL.

What kind of sound card do you have?  Are you positive you looked over all the connections to make certain they are correct?  I hear from people on here that Creative has problems with there cards vs Vista.

Also, check and see if the sound card is seated correctly.  Shipping can cause some unnatural things to happen to computer parts, a lot things get knocked loose.

The sound card is built into the motherboard. I did update the motherboard driver,to no avail. And,yes,I was a bit surprised at the response I got. Thanks for your trying to help.

Did you by chance install the audio codecs? I had sound issues until I installed the Realtek HD codecs. You could try that. It's worth a shot.

Edit: I also find that response unlike any of my experiences with Digital Storm. I know they have brought in new help, it's possible you got someone that is relatively new to customer service.

Yea, If you got that response you should ask for Kelly, Alex, or Dave.  I mean a 10 year old could hook up speakers to a computer and they would work.  If you hooked them up and didn't get a sound then I suggest you call them back.

Have you tried headphones?  just to make sure it isn't your speakers.

So I can poke around some of the other boards and see if anyone else has had a similar problem, which mobo?

Let us know how it goes, if you have any luck, one way or another.

Bigdog: There's actually a good chance the 10 year old would do better than me. LOL

The Realtek update didn't do the trick. The mobo is nvidia 680i LT Core 2 Quad. I think I'll start googling also.

Ok, I'll see what I can find too.

Sorry if these next questions seem painfully obvious, just trying to cover all bases.

Does the realtech audio control panel at least detect that speakers have been plugged in? It should...

Also, try right click on the windows volume control and check "playback" and see if it shows your speakers.

Should look like this:

All I have been able to find on this are two suggestions.

Suggestion 1: Uninstall all audio drivers, and use a software cleaner to make sure all traces of the drivers are gone. Reboot. make sure audio devices are not plugged in. Install drivers from scratch. Plug in audio devices and see if they are properly detected.

Suggestion 2: Bad audio chip on the motherboard.

My suggestion: If option 1 doesn't work:  Send a personal message to Dave, Kelly, or Alex. Explain the situation. Explain the initial response you got. Ask for help. Even if option 1 does work, send a PM to one of these gentlemen and let them know how your problem was handled.

I hope it works out for you.

Please feel free to ask any questions, regardless of how elementary they may seem.

Both Realtek and Windows speaker icon recognize the speakers as connected.

Please forgive me for bailing out for the night, I have to get up in less than 5 hours.

Thanks again for all your time and help, Steve Perkins

From my understanding, you have on-board audio correct? If so, I know you are plugging them into the back of the motherboard panel, try playing an audio file and go into the settings and make sure your speaker configuration is correct. Is "Digital Out" enabled?

That awkward someone would tell you they can't help you, we try to help our customers, even if they did not purchase speakers from us! What was the persons name if you remember? If not, please private message me your order number, I would like to see who you spoke with.

Try that out, if it does not work, please call us back ASAP, and they should help you out.
