for sandy bridge or 1366? Sandy runs very very cool and even if ur doing stage 1 overclocking(4 ghz to 4.7ghz) it will run cool.

For SB, Noctua unless you want to push in the 4.7GHz range or higher.

its the i7 2600k 3.4  , im at the mercy of DS as to what their free stage one overclocking is going to be , so your saying the Noctua is all i will need ? im not looking to push it real high , dont see the need for it , nor am i too keen to pay a couple hundred extra for it , as i dont have the skills to tinker with it myself .

SB has been made real easy to oc, so you can easily push it pass 3.9GHz yourself if you wanted, and Noctua is exactly type of air cooler you want to do that, for games pass 3.9Ghz is not needed, but for other stuff it does make a difference.

get the 3.9GHz oc here, then push pass that yourself if you want to.

also is the rather extreme size of the Noctua going to cause any other issues ?  coolermaster 942 haf x ,  ie. sli ram or whatever ?

All you want is the Noctua NH-U12P, its not as big as the d14, so no issues there, and you don't need the d14.

all the d14 does is cover some of the ram sticks/slots.

fyi, here's what I just got the other day in my "stage 7" email. The email still showed the 3 year warranty. I expect, per Alex's posts and other correspondence, that the warranty in the delivery paperwork will be the FOUR year one, since I ordered the Sandy Bridge during the Intel "blackout period".

FYI, the stock MSI TWIN FROZR GTX 560 card has 880 MHz clock - Digital Storm's OC only brought it to 900 MHZ. I will be tweaking it with MSI AFterburner when I get the system myself.

The ram slots are usable. Basically, one of the NH-D14's cooling fans, will sit over the top of one or two sticks of ram. In order to put these sticks in, or take them out, you'll have to remove that one fan from the side of the cooler. This doesn't require any tools at all, as you are not removing the whole heat-sink, just one fan that snaps onto the  side.

@GLENN2525, as Tidgxor pointed out, you need to un screw 4 screws on the side fan and remove it, should you need to access those sticks/slots.

@bakerac, your four year warranty is actually 4 year labor, 2 year parts, the 3 year warranty is 3 year labor, 1 year parts. 6 year warranty = 6 year labor, 4 year parts.

You got a great OC and nice vcore

@Regent Square, the noctua is s cpu cooler, has nothing to do with gpu cooling, the gpus have their own fans that they use to cool themselves, the only time gpu cooling changes is starting at stage 5 cooling.

.

Actually, on mine, there are just two metal brackets that snap on, and of off the metal heat-sink. No unscrewing required, perhaps there are different ways to install it? That's the way it came from DS though.

You can see what I'm talking about fairly clearly in this image:

Definitely agree with DST4ME on this one, no need to apologize, you learn something every day! Case in point, in regards to the fans on the NH-D14.. I took mine entirely off the motherboard for cleaning, not realizing the fans came off.. when its obvious that they do Oops

First time for everything Big%20Smile
