The other day I took my computer outside to give it a thorough cleaning. While I was hauling the beast downstairs, I heard a funny noise.

It is kind of hard to describe the noise. It sounds similar when something in your TV remote has broken off and rolls around the inside. I'll see if I can record the sound and upload it.

The noise seems to be coming from the power, reset, and led fan control area - possibly the DVD drive. I thought it might have been the buttons for the tool-less drives, but that is not the problem.

The noise only seems to happen when you tilt the case to the left and right while up in a up right position.

The noise doesn't seem to have affect performance. Naturally the sound has my curiosity peaked -- I'm wondering what is causing the sound.

Any suggestions?

I would take off the top cover and peek around.  If it's a metal screw, that could really mess things up.   I think the front I/O panel and circuitry is hooked to the top, so...  slow does it.

So I took apart the case to figure out what the noise was.

It turns out it was the DVD drive.
