I have been impressed with DS reviews but most list Noise levels as a main complaint.  Are the computers that noisey?  What is the noise level like?

Most if not all complaints about noise are from those people stepping up from main-stream basic computers that lack the case fans, not to mention GPU, CPU fans, bigger PSU fans and the like. Yes gaming computers do make some noise compared to your run-of-the-mill systems. But on the flip side if your upgrading an older gaming rig, the newer systems are getting a little quieter.

My DS rig is the qiuetest PC I have ever owned. Kinda ironic considering it is also the most powerful PC I have had to date.

There's no simple answer to this question, since there are many different computer configurations. The number of fans and the number of openings in the case can vary considerably.

I have a midrange system (doesn't produce that much heat) with just two case fans, Stage 2 CPU cooling, and an 8800 GTS. Throw in the PSU, and that's five fans altogether. However, this stuff is sitting in an EXTREME case with lots of ventilation holes.

Most of the noise seems to come from the CPU cooler fan which is right underneath a big vent in the top of the case. I'm actually thinking about pluging up that top vent to quiet the system down. Of course, I'd watch the various temperature monitors for a while.... Stern%20Smile

But, the DSO machine is easily less than half as loud as my 5, going on 6, year old 2 MHz Micron PC. I think this is because the Micron has fewer fans that are working harder.

To tell you the truth, all of the newest and greatest hardware runs hotter and hotter. We have to tackle the heat. After all, would you rather game on a stable problem free machine?

Noise level's are quiet, they aren't so loud that you can hear them over a conversation. We would never let a machine that sounds like a dust blower or a blow dryer leave our facility.

This is my first DS rig ( not the last for sure), it is the quietest system I've ever owned. The liquid cooling makes some small swishing noises but is not enough to be bothersome. By far, when the game is rolling, noise level is at  a minimum. DS rocks!!Smile

Well if you have liquid cooling it will ofcourse be much more quiet compared to a bunch of fans.. Its the fans that usually make all the sound....

True, more fans more noise, my system has 2 120mm fans plus liquid, still the noise lvl is minimal in my experience. Just passing along some info.

I would say a good comparison to the noise of most DS machines would be a standing house fan. One of those rotating fans with the classic three speed settings. I would say the noise is about on level with setting one or two. You can hear it, you know it's there, but it's not annoying. In fact, I find it tantalizing. Like it's calling to me... Big%20smile
