I've noticed the side case fan on my HAF X has become a bit noisy during boot up. Specifically it sounds like an old fan spinning that is off its axis.

It has happened before and usually it would subside. It happened again this morning. I took the side panel off while it was running to make sure it was the case fan.

I took a video: http://youtu.be/_CWVBtEMiDM

The noise doesn't seem to affect performance; I've had some great temperatures lately, mainly due to the cold weather.

If the noise doesn't stop, is it possible to swap out the fan on the side case?

Hi Brewtus...Yep, that sounds like a bad bearing on the fan whcih can come and go.  Just to make sure, look to confirm nothing is hitting the blades like the wire, etc.

All the fans are easy to replace, usually just 4 screws holding it in.  Some fans mount on rubber pins, but I don't think those.

If you still have DS warranty they will replace for free, you pay shipping.

Yep, you will be able to easily replace this fan, I've had my side fan on the HAF-X out many times for cleaning purposes. All you need is a screwdriver Awesome

Brewtus: We've opened a support ticket for you and sent you an e-mail.

bprat22 is correct, we can send out a new fan for you, we just need to collect a small shipping fee. Give us a time to contact you so we can get that arranged for you.

Thanks for the feedback guys.

I received an email from Richard at DS. Got a replacement fan on the way.

In my opinion, Richard is one of the best to deal with. I worked with Richard on a prior issue around the Christmas time. Very helpful and a pleasure to speak with.

I just wish others at DS were of the same caliber.

Hi Brewtus,

Well that was a quick fix.

I have found everyone at DS that I have made contact with to be professional and concerned about solving my problems.

I also have a noisy fan and was checking the forums for what to do. I haven't had my computer very long and have never had a problem with it before so I'm not sure what the process is for this sort of thing.

i did some 'investigating' and the noisy fan seems to be in the power supply box in the bottom at the back. I keep it pretty clean anyway but i tried to blow it out just to make sure a little dusty thingy didn't get in there or anything. It's clicking like a 78 pinto we used to have. it's constant and pretty loud...luckily i've got some monster headphones i can wear when playing mass effect 3 Big%20Smile

thanks for your help!

Great - I'll be keeping an eye out for the package. Is there a tracking number? If so, please email me the number.
