I'm not much of a gamer, but on the rare occasion I do have time to get into a game, I want it to look sharp and hope I wont have to lay out for upgrades too often. My current PC I built myself in '02 and did a major upgrade in '06 and it's still going strong, but now I'd like something with faster hardware and directX 10/11 support that should hopefully last at least 3-4 years. I've done a fair bit of research but so much has changed that I haven't had time to keep up with (why I'm here and not building it myself again). Anyone see any major issues with this configuration or see anywhere where I can make better price/performance trade-offs? I'm trying to keep it at the $2k range.
Here's what I've got: (418519) Specifications: Chassis Model: Special Deal Hot Seller - SilverStone TJ09 Processor: Intel Core i7 930 2.8GHz (Quad Core) Motherboard: ASUS P6X58D Premium SLI (Intel X58 Chipset) (Features USB 3.0 and SATA 6Gb/s) System Memory: 6GB DDR3 1600MHz Digital Storm Certified Performance Series Power Supply: 750W Digital Storm Certified (Dual SLI Compatible) (Silent Edition Recommended) Expansion Bay: Internal Digital Media Card Reader (Black) (NOTE: Disables 2 Front USB Ports) Hard Drive Set 1: Operating System: 1x (128GB Solid State (By: Corsair Nova Series) (Model: CSSD-V128GB2-BRKT) Optical Drive 1: DVD-R/RW/CD-R/RW (DVD Writer 24x / CD-Writer 48x) (LightScribe Edition) Video Card: 1x ATI Radeon HD 5770 1GB Sound Card: Integrated Motherboard Audio Extreme Cooling: H20: Stage 2: Asetek Liquid CPU Cooler (120mm Radiator) Chassis Airflow: Standard Factory Chassis Fans Boost Processor: FREE: Stage 1: Overclock the processor between 3.3GHz to 3.9GHz (Cooling Upgrade Recommended) Boost Video Card: FREE: Yes, Overclock the video card(s) as much as possible with complete stability Windows OS: Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium (64-Bit Edition) |

id say youre on a very good track, few pointers
i personally would get a better case. i think this one you picked is both an eyesore (opinion) and has very inefficient cooling. consider the haf 922
your hdd choice is good, but keep in mind that you dont want to fill it up to much. from what i read, around 80%+ you will start to loose performance
the cooler you picked is only ok, lots of people on here speak poorly about it, but i have seen no proof, i dont know how quiet it is but i can vouch for the noctua u12p as being a wonderful and SUPER quiet cooler

Such as an upgraded video card, an an upgraded cooler. I also changed your motherboard for you to the EVGA x58 LE since I have seen it be a great and reliable motherboard. |

Or even better yet, have both a SSD and HDD. Small fast SSD for OS/apps, large HDD for games/movies/music/pictures.
You don't want a Corsair Nova SSD though, horrible performance for the price. Get an Intel SSD, they have literately 8-10 times better small file performance than a Nova, which is the only kind of files SSDs are particularly better at than HDDs anyway. They come in 40GB, 80GB, and 160GB flavors. A 40GB Intel SSD is in everyone's budget, no excuses! ![]() |

^^^^ Gotta agree with you on the SSD, especially now that I've done my homework on them, switched it up to an 80GB Intel for the OS and 1.5 TB HDD for music and movies.
@!Ender_ - Funny, to me that's the only case that isn't an eyesore. Different tastes I guess, good point on the SSD limitations though, something to keep in mind. Did some further research and decided to drop the Asetek liquid cooling. Still sounds like a neat system but not sure it would last as long as I'd like it too. @Sarah, I'd rather the motherboard be the last thing on my system to be obsolete, much easier to pop in a new graphics card every couple of years and the 5850 is almost as good for considerably less, is there some reason I wouldn't want USB 3.0 and SATA 6Gb/s ? I'm not really looking for cutting edge performance, I rarely play games (until Portal 2 comes out anyway) and don't have a high-end monitor so I'd rather spend the money elsewhere. Thanks everyone for the inputs, decide to switch it up to an AMD system (I missed that option the first time) Here's what I'm looking at now, going to sleep on it before I pull the trigger. 419095 Specifications: Chassis Model: Special Deal Hot Seller - SilverStone TJ09 Processor: AMD Phenom II X6 1055T Black Edition (2.8GHz) (6 Core) (6 MB Cache) AM3 Socket Motherboard: ASUS Crosshair IV Formula (AMD 890X Chipset) (SATA 6 and USB 3.0) (Socket AM3) System Memory: 4GB DDR3 1600MHz Digital Storm Certified Performance Series Power Supply: 500W Digital Storm Certified Hard Drive Set 1: Operating System: 1x (80GB Solid State (By: Intel) (Extreme Performance) (Model: X25-M MLC Edition) Hard Drive Set 2: Multimedia\Data: 1x (1.5TB Seagate Barracuda (7200 RPM) (32MB Cache) (SATA) (Extreme Speed) Optical Drive 1: DVD-R/RW/CD-R/RW (DVD Writer 24x / CD-Writer 48x) (LightScribe Edition) Internet Access: High Speed Network Port (Supports High-Speed Cable / DSL / Network Connections) Video Card: 1x ATI Radeon HD 5850 1GB Add-on Card: - No Thanks Sound Card: Integrated Motherboard Audio Extreme Cooling: AIR: Stage 1: High Performance Cooler (Compatible With ONLY i5/AMD Processors) Chassis Airflow: Standard Factory Chassis Fans Internal Lighting: Internal Chassis Lighting System (Blue) Boost Processor: FREE: Stage 1: Overclock the processor between 3.3GHz to 3.9GHz (Cooling Upgrade Recommended) Boost Video Card: FREE: Yes, Overclock the video card(s) as much as possible with complete stability Boost Memory: - No Thanks, Please do not overclock my memory Windows OS: Microsoft Windows 7 Professional (32-Bit Edition) |

Just noticed that says 32-Bit Edition, will have to change that obviously.
