Total newbie & any help or advice is very much appreciated. 1. Your Budget:$1000 for the CPU. I don't think I'll be upgrading the rest atm. Have a okay monitor (Acer V223-WB22" Widescreen TFT LCD Monitor). I like my current keyboard (Microsoft Ergo Keyboard) & have a Logitech G5 mouse. Speakers are crap speakers but I might upgrade at a later time.
2. Expectations: Main use is just for basic everyday tasks. Gaming time is rare & few now. I tend to multitask (have multiple things open at the same time so I need something that is able to do that).
3. Usage: This com will mainly be for general web surfing & for my home business. When I do have time for games, it's mainly Blizzards games like SC2, D2, etc.
4. Special Needs: Fast. Something not too noisy. I know.....why choose Digital Storm when I don't have the time to game much now? I guess, it's cause I used to game a ton (2-3 years ago) so I rather have a starter gaming computer that can handle games rather than a 'normal' computer & be frustrated. Thanks for your help in advance! |

I would save a bit more and come back, that budget is too tight.

Somewhere in the 1600-1800 range you hit a nice spot for price vs performance. Anything lower than about 1400 you're paying a lot for older, outdated technology.

For 1900 x 1200, you want a system that has one gpu (570/560, prefer 570) but can handle 2 for sli.
for that you need a sli mobo and psu, right now that would be deluxe mobo and 1000w corsair psu. such system right now will run you around $1850. for res lower then 1900 x 1200, you just need single card, so the p8p67 and 750w corsair psu will do. such system right now will run you $1680. |

Is it better to get a low end model now & upgrade later?
Or better to save & get the $1600-$1800 model range? Thanks! |

It will cost more in the long run to go with a single gpu system and then upgrade the mobo and psu later, not to mention the headache of installing mobo and resetting oc and etc.
Now if your use/gaming only needs say one 570 ,then you have no use for the system that can do sli, in that case I would go with the single gpu system. Edited by DST4ME - 07 Apr 2011 at 2:30am |
