Topic: Not booting past ASOS BIOS Posted: 08 Feb 2022 at 5:17pm |
Hello,
I was using my PC, doing work, and watching YouTube when all of a sudden it blue screened. I restarted my PC once prompted to do so and now it won't boot past the ASUS UEFI BIOS Utility screen. I've tried restarting the PC, restoring default settings, and it hasn't fixed the problem. Any ideas on what is going on and what I can do to fix it? For reference, here are my specs: Processor: I5 8600K 3.60GHz Motherboard: ASUS / MSI Intel Z370 Chipset System Memory: 16GB Power Supply: 600W Digital Storm Performance Series Graphics Card: GeForce GTX 1070 8GB Storage: 240GB SSD & 2TB Seagate |

You have lifetime DS tech support. I'm told they can remotely access your PC for diagnostics. This problem has multiple causes, and you may best need their help.

I would have already called Digital Storm if it was me.

Are you comfortable using the Bios? If so, check if the boot drive (usually C:) is being recognized. I am at work currently or would take some screenshots.

I’m not too comfortable using the BIOS. I tried booting the PC up this morning and again just now when I got home and it’s not even booting the BIOS up anymore. I did look at the booting priority yesterday and there was only 1 thing in there and it was whatever is connected to my SATA6G_2. I found it odd that there was nothing in the SATA6G_1 slot, but maybe that’s normal, I have no idea. I’ll attach a picture that I took yesterday of that. https://imgur.com/a/N7tVmJc |

Definitely odd, you should see both. Can you tell if the drive listed is the 240 GB or 2TB

If you can't see the boot drive (The one with windows) then my hunch is an SSD drive failure but hopefully not!
Could be plenty of other options. Did you recently clean the computer, move it? Maybe one of the connections came out. Not booting to BIOS is VERY odd which would make it sound not like a drive issue. The BIOS info is all on the motherboard. It does not depend on the o/s drive. That would be a much tougher fix! If you bought the computer from DS the techs can help. You would get assigned a tech and they would work with you to diagnose. |

I was able to get to the BIOS, for some reason it doesn’t boot when I turn on the PC, I have to restart it for it to boot. Here’s a picture of the boot menu https://imgur.com/a/6mVQdQW |

Where it says boot option 1, are there any other options. That looks like the 2TB drive. I am guessing your O/S is on the smaller 20GB SSD.

The only option is the SATA6G_2 connection. The only other option in the drop down is "Disabled" |

If both your drives are installed in the computer you would see both options. It is not seeing your SSD which contains your Operating System.

If all the cables are connected this sure sounds like a failed drive to me.
If you are not comfortable checking the cables, then PLEASE don't play around with it! You don't want to unplug anything else and not remember where it goes. I would suggest calling DS or emailing support. I had a recent issue with RAM and they were pretty quick to get back to me. |

What case do you have? It may be on the back side of the case.

That is a case I am not familiar with. Does the other side come off as well?
In my Lumos build, the Hard Drives would be installed on the back side of the case, assuming this is the same for your case. |

I cant quite tell, but do you know if this was an Nvme SSD drive. Can you zoom in under the cooler and above the video card. It looks like an NVME drive but cant quite tell. The thing that says XPG
I was able to zoom in and that sure looks like the NVME drive to me. That would be where your Operating System sits. You can try to reseat it but I would suggest watching a video first. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vmxKq1XA60U If that it still does boot then unfortunately they do fail OR it could be a failure at your motherboard which happens as well. This would be best for DS. Sorry I could not be more help. Edited by JVCJr79 - 09 Feb 2022 at 5:03pm |

Alright. I've submitted a tech support request to DS and I've referred them to this forum thread so I will see what they come up with. I appreciate your help with this!

If you have more than 1 RAM stick, remove one at a time to see if it boots without the removed stick and ....do that with each one. Apart from that DS will be your best bet. I don't think an M.2 NVMe needs any reseating since it is held pretty firmly with a screw. Good luck and keep us posted. |

I've been communicating with a DS technician, they recommended a reseating at first, which I did to no avail. I purchased a new SSD under their advice but it seems I've got another problem. I tried to remove the RAM sticks 1 at a time as you instructed and it seems like it may have caused another issue. Ever since I took out the second stick it doesn't seem to boot to the BIOS anymore (even after replacing the two sticks). The power button also no longer turns the computer off. It will turn the computer on, but not off leaving me with only the power supply switch to turn the PC off. I do know that using the power supply switch to turn off the PC is somewhat risky when it comes to corrupting files and data but I don't have another option. Since we are coming up on a weekend & holiday and communications with my DS technician are based upon his workload, do you guys have any ideas what might be causing this issue? Starting from scratch, your pc won’t boot past initial boot screen?
Remove all external devices plugged in to the pc, except monitor, keyboard. Make sure to unplug anything plugged into monitor if it has a USB port. Turn off and unplug rig , hold in power button for several seconds, plug back in and try. Try booting with only 1 ram stock. Try both individually. Locate CMOS battery on motherboard, remove for a few minutes, reinstall. A long shot, but a new battery might help. Probably not the issue but batteries do go bad. Unplug any drives but the OS primary drive from the motherboard SATA ports and try. Good luck. |

Also a long shot but connect the pc directly to the wall outlet. In the past there were all sort of issues stemming from surge strips. Good luck. |

Thanks so much! I've resolved the BIOS not booting up. Since I had to install a new SSD, how would I go about installing windows OS onto it? |

I’m guessing you probably already Googled and reloaded OS, but if not,
DS should have included a recovery memory stick with you purchase. Or, you can download using Media Creation tool at MS website. It will download a bootable copy of Win11 to flash drive that you place in a USB port, boot pc and follow directions. You might have to go to Bios first and make USB the primary boot device. Hope this helps and good luck. Edited by bprat22 - 19 Feb 2022 at 12:01am |

+1 The Windows key number is on a sticker adhered to the pc in the back, if you need it. |
