Recently, we have a neighbor who had isolated himself since the pandemic started. Never accepts visitors, all he did was order online but he died of COVID-19! We think it was from the parcels. It's stressing me out since he was a healthy dude and I'm not. It would surely take me out when it hits me. I don't want to order online anymore until all this ends.

All of the evidence that I've seen shows there is very little chance of getting COVID-19 from parcels. Here's a good article from the Mayo Clinic on that subject:
Mayo Clinic That being said, if you're concerned about it, wipe down your packages with Clorox wipes or alcohol wipes. Then wash your hands thoroughly when you are done. I live with someone who is immunocompromised, so I understand the concern. |

If you are concerned, use disposable latex gloves to handle all incoming mail and packages and place them in a closed place for 3 to 4 days. Every item, every day. Also do get vaccinated if available and possible. Good luck.

And yes...please do what Hoserator suggested: Get vaccinated.
If you are vaccinated, your chances of getting COVID from a package is super small. Your chances of being hospitalized will be close to zero.

I read the article from Mayo Clinic. Thank you. I'm sorry I overreacted. I guess it just got to me, but I have to stay focus and do what's necessary. I'll get my shots. Are you guys vaccinated?

I was vaccinated as soon as I was eligible after my hospitalization with COVID pneumonia. I am NOT going through that again.

There's no need to apologize about overreacting. This pandemic is scary, and I think we've all overreacted at times. Personally, I think it's better to overreact rather than under-react. :)
You asked if I've had my shot. Yes I have, and almost everybody that I know has had theirs.

I also have had my shots. No reaction at all. Neither did my wife. Most I know have had theirs, some have valid reasons as to why not. Good luck.

As James said, you do not need to apologize. It's a reasonable concern, plus you seem to be willing to consider the facts -- a big plus. Even before the pandemic, I was the person to bring a disinfectant wipe into stores, etc. Additionally, I've been occasionally wiping down light switches, door knobs/handles, etc in my home for many years now.
I will be soon. I wanted to confirm with doctors, etc, if it was okay and how it would go because I'm currently using immunosuppression meds.
Good to read you conquered it. I had a pneumonia/lung infection that wasn't confirmed as COVID-19 though suspected. Suffice it to say, I gained sympathy for my older brother with asthma. Edited by MrCheetah - 26 Aug 2021 at 3:47pm |

My wife and I had Covid-19 in January, and I received the lovely parting gift of Covid pneumonia ("double walking") that had me laid up well into February. We were vaccinated in April.
I was grateful to have had very slight symptoms from either of them. The Covid almost completely robbed me of any energy or stamina, but the coughing and fever were manageable. I was very fortunate to have the pneumonia limited to a chronic shortness of breath that was cured with antibiotics. I didn't even have a fever with that. Very, very fortunate.

If it’s a concern, only open packages outside, use alcohol wipes and gloves if u want to wipe entire outside of package, then open. Wipe down contents inside and throw away packaging or leave packaging outside for a few days. Sunlight kills virus much faster. That’s what I do for every package I get. Anything the package touches is wiped. That being said, it is little to no chance of getting covid from parcels or mail, though never zero. Good luck

If it will give you peace, do as you please but the chance of getting the virus through parcels os slim.

Yes, it is quite scary. I heard there's a need for a booster, are you getting one too? |

Glad that you recovered well, are you okay now? I heard of people still having difficulty breathing even months after getting infected. |

Yep, I plan on getting my booster as soon as it's available. My wife who is immunocompromised already had her 3rd shot. |

We are fully recovered and feel perfectly normal. There is a dismal outcome known as "long-haul Covid' where symptoms come and go for months without an end in sight. A close relative has this, and her life is in shambles. She was infected very early on, before there were a lot of defenses. Medical researchers are working on it, and have a few preliminary treatments, but nothing works with everyone and there's nothing like a "cure". We will be getting our Pfizer boosters at the 6 months mark in Dec. |

I like to order online. Especially now I need it. Since I'm fixing up my house. I now need to buy an ip panel intercom online and pick it up. But after hearing about all these cases with Covid. It makes me feel uncomfortable. I don't want to do any renovations. I'm thinking about doing it later.

I am 69 and double vaccinated with Moderna and my wife & I will schedule our boosters soon. Our daughter has Long Haul Covid which she caught about 8 months ago and hasn't been able to go back to work yet. Long Haul Covid changes your life but better than being dead.
I have my long awaited parcel containing my new computer showing up here later this month. I wouldn't let Covid stop you from getting a computer system that will make these long days in isolation a little more bearable gaming and just having fun. Digital Storm builds quality systems and I am typing on a 12 year Digital Storm computer that only needed a fan replaced in all these years. Digital Storm is in California and they definitely follow all the Covid safety rules and I don't believe getting that new gaming system would result in anything but opportunities to game with an excellent blazing fast computer!

I understand your fears about Covid. My girlfriend is immuno compromised, so the last 18 months have been quite challenging. We take Covid more seriously than most people, because she is at very high risk if she gets it.
That being said, Covid is spread almost entirely through the air. The vast majority of infections occur indoors where you are in close proximity to someone who has it, and there is a lack of ventilation. The chance of getting it from a package is quite small, and if you are double vaccinated the chance is almost zero. If you want to take extra precautions, then wipe down the package with Clorox or alcohol wipes. Thoroughly wash your hands after handling the package and its contents. You can only get Covid if it makes it into your nose or mouth. |

I was hospitalized three times due to COVID pneumonia. It is a miserable disease. When I was eligible for the vaccine, I got it. And, I have had my booster, so that makes 3 shots for me. The worst thing that happened to me is that I ran a fever for about 1.5 days after my last vaccine. BUT, I ran a fever with bed soaking night sweats for about a month and a half while I had during the time I actively had the disease. So, a fever after the shot was a walk in the park. I consider myself fortunate to be here. I got to be wheelchaired out, then walk to a van for transport home. A lot of folks who were admitted before left the hospital in body bags. Like I said, GLAD to be here. Richard |

Covid is an awful curse on the world! So many have died and so many lives touched by severe sickness.
Sadly, this will continue for some time. All we can do is have comforting beliefs and trust in our personal decisions after consultation with medical professionals & other trusted guidance. I pray that this pandemic spares as much as possible my dear friends & their families here in the Digital Storm Forum. This forum has always been a place of compassion & concern for others and repeated often in the help and guidance provided in assuring everybody gets a powerful Digital Storm system that fits the needs of people seeking advice!

Onkel_Ken, I am so sorry to hear your daughter has this vile variant. Please accept my heart-felt sympathies. My cousin's daughter who has this is so dear to us, we think of her as another daughter. I know your distress.

Cretae,
Thank you for the kind words. Nancy is a postal carrier but hasn't been able to work for months since she got Covid. It has caused her to have problems concentrating & thinking as well as general body weakness. But as I said, we are all thankful she survived as there are many that haven't. She seems to slowly get a little better with time but we doubt she will be able do postal carrier work anymore. Oh well, life is full of grief at times for all of us and along with all the bad there are precious warm moments we all still have with family & friends. I know I am excited about my new DS Beast showing up soon. With all the Covid shutdowns and general grief my wife & I pretty much stay at home or just visit friends at the VFW. Having a nice gaming system & general blazingly fast computer is a really nice thing to have at home to keep us busy and connected with friends while we all face this apparently unending pandemic.
