Have serious problems with black screen crashes. Play Lord of the Rings Online game. Had an 8800 video card that broke completely after 13 months in a new computer. Replaced that with a 250 card 8 weeks ago that started black screen crashes after 6 weeks. Local computer shop cannot find the problem. I am considering biting the bullet and buying a Digital storm value computer. Then I saw this quote in the customer support Lord of the rings forum and it scares me. “Defective GPUs (from manufacturing) or severely worn GPUs (from use over time at high temps) cause the black screening issue. Running any processor hot for a long time will wear away at the non-conductive areas between traces and microscopic transistors. This causes anything from crosstalk to downright shorting and can cause all sorts of issues. For us experiencing the black screen issue, it's most likely a problem with the GPU incorrectly communicating with the RAMDAC, otherwise known as the NVidia Input/Output (NVIO) chip on Series 8 and later video cards. The NVIO chip (used to be built into some GPUs) is responsible for syncing to monitor refresh, handling dual-link DVI, HDMI, TV outs, etc. Lotr forums say the game is not causing the crashes but it uses parts of the card that weaken it and then card starts black screening till it goes completely bad like my 8800 card did. My black screen crashes started in game then occur out of game and at idol now. Are any Lord of the ring Digital Storm computer players experiencing black screen crashes in game or out of game with Nvidia video cards? Are any Digital Storm computers having black screen problems? |

Well, I can tell you that the game your playing is not the problem and Nvidia is not the problem. Maybe your system is cooking your card? Have you ever tried to check your cards temps and tweek the fan speeds to keep it cooler? Try running this tool, its very simple and user friendly. Run up the fan speeds and see how it works out for you:
I am not expert and many here have much more knowledge than I, but the bottom line is that heat is a GPU / CPU killer. Look at your temps. Your computer could be cooking itself. Since I have no clue what your set up is, you also might want to download and try seeing what your CPU is running at too:
And how about your case? Have you cleaned it out? Dust can trap lots of heat. Try running it with the side panel off?
Just my opinion.
Nvidia are the best cards / chips, in my opinion.
