Topic: Nvidia Driver 180.48 Posted: 20 Nov 2008 at 1:15pm |
Hello everyone
I just downloaded the new Nvidia drivers (180.48).
I am running 2 x 9800gtx+ in SLI. I found that the download set SLI at disable as a default, so had to re enable.
I ran 3dmark06 after the download and instead of finding a fps increase and higher score, my score went down by 400 points. The cpu score was the same before and after as would be expected. The SM 2.0 score went up a bit, but the SM 3.0 score really went down. As an aside the PhysX demo seems to run a little faster.
Has anyone had experience with the new drivers and if so how are they working for you? Does anyone have any idea why the scores went down? One of the reasons given for the new drivers was to increase fps in games. I have not had a chance to test in DirectX 10 games yet, but will do so after work.
I also found that the fan speed control in Riva Tuner has disappeared after the down load, which sucks. I understand that EVGA Precision is a good utility for setting graphic card parameters including fan speed. My video cards are not EVGA. Does anyone know if the EVGA Precision utility works on non EVGA cards?
Although I don't have to rush to do anything, I am thinking of getting rid of the new drivers and reinstalling the older ones which worked well.
Thanks for your input and comments.
Alan

Thanks skyR Now all I have to figure out is why the new driver has slowed me down.
Alan
PS - Just ran a few games (Crysis and Fear) as a test with the new drivers and they ran slower.

Hi Again
I rolled back the drivers and my system is running like a top again.
I guess my conclusion is beware of the new drivers if you have 9800gtxs.

So it incresed my gpu score. The fan control was disabled after I installed update but guess what theres a new version of riva and evga precisian out that will enable the fans so no problem there. ubove is a second full run of vantage with new drivers increased my score by over 1000

You might want to try the beta drivers 180.43, they increased performance a lot in the testing I did.

I have stayed with the 180.43 drivers,, even though they are Beta, I have had so far good luck and good performance with these.
I was on nVidia driver forums and there has been alot of neg talk of the .48 drivers. some ppl have had good luck and others not so good.. but so far the talk has been that of .48= bad driver... do yourself's favors and search the forums well before you decide to update,, but as the other posters say,, " if it ain't broke. dont fix it"

For anyone who has Devil May Cry 4, by any chance when they have these drivers running do you see Nero and Dante and other people/objects getting very blurry during cutscenes?
