Any comments on this Nvidia ESA structure that DSO offers?  Is it worth the additional $50 to perhaps a novice computer person to assist in fixing comp problems?

Is the LCD Temp Display other than the coolness effect on your computer necessary or is there another way to monitor your temps through software etc?

I use coretemp, the EVGA Precision Tool and the LCD screen on my Logitech G15 keyboard to keep an eye on temps when I'm not in my desktop. While in desktop, I also have Speedfan keeping an eye on things. One nice thing about hardware based temp monitors, is they continue to give a reading even if things slow down considerably or lock up software wise. Another nice thing about them is they do not eat up system resources or add to your startup time. I look at them as nice to have, but not neccesary.
