The 300 series will have huge gains in certain areas, in gaming overall performance will not be 4 times of the 200, most likely around 2 times max.. CUDA  is getting a huge performance gain..
I hope this card will really deliver!  and not be too much $$.Wink

Did the 200 series or below have L1/L2 cache and will it be used for anything else besides cuda?

ECC Memory, I wonder if this is going to have a major impact on failure rates.

Woot for 512 cores, I am glad I waited.

I hope NVIDIA gets into the x86 processor market soon.

GT200 did not have L1 and L2 in the traditional sense.

Also Fermi does not have x86. So it's not quite a CPU "yet."

Thanks for the L1/L2 info.

I know it isn't an x86, I am just hoping they produce a CPU in the future.

I realize this is just conjecture, but what's everyone's feeling about an ETA for this coming out?

Think it's got a shot, probably at the high end first I'm guessing, of releasing this year?

fair enough

then how about this

do the specs give the impression this is the same quantum leap in performance we saw when the 8800GTX came out?

Simple answer: Yes

Longer answer: Maybe more of a leap. This is what I've been saying all along though xD.

That's wishful thinking. There is no way Fermi is going to equal the performance of 2 GTX 295s. At best I'd say it would be a marginal increase over a single GTX 295. But in a single card. Still impressive all things considered.

We learned that towards the end of 2009 Nvidia plans to launch three Fermi architecture based cards. The one that Nvidia talked about, is the high end single chip card and this one was said to to have 16 clusters and total of 512 shader cores. Let’s call this it Fermi GTX.

The dual card will naturally have two of these cores and likely a bit less than 2x512 shader cores simply as it has to operate with a TDP of around 300W. Heat is a big enemy of semiconductors and once you get up to 3.1 billion transistors even with small 40nm gates, you still end up with a lot of heat. If we could come up with a codename for better understanding, it would be Fermi GX2.

The third card, something that we can call Fermi GT, will be a performance card, and it could be the new 8800GT. Nvidia expects a lot of sales from this card and this one would go up against Radeon 5850.

This should be it for 2009 and in the first three months of 2010 we would expect the remaining members of Nvidia's Fermi DirectX 11 generation, including entry level and mainstream cards. Notebook stuff based on Fermi comes much later in 2010.

thats what I have seen

this one is from oct 2nd:

Fermi that was running PhysX at Jensen's GTC keynote was real but the one that we all took pictures of was a mock-up.

The real engineering sample card is full of dangling wires. Basically, it looks like an octopus of modules and wires and the top brass at Nvidia didn't want to give that thing to Jensen. This was confirmed today by a top Nvidia VP president class chap, but the same person did confirm that the card is real and that it does exist.

Charlie was surely right about this one here. The card that Jensen showed and we all pictured is not a working sample. Some key people at Nvidia have promised to show us the picture of the real one. Stay tuned.

So what are the current rumors flowing from the rumor mill regarding a potential release date. I was going to pull the trigger on a new system, but I heard that the 300 series would be available before December. So anyone have any good, reliable links regarding this?
