This configuration can't support RAID because the two disk drives aren't identical.

The 4 Gig of RAM is kind of a waste (unless you plan to move Vista-64 at some point) because your video cards will consume 1.5 Gig of your 4 Gig memory space. Other stuff will consume more memory space, but basically you'll have access to at most 2.5 Gig of system RAM.

Your frame rate in Oblivion is going to depend on your screen resolution. Poke around Tomshardware.com for details. Regardless of all that, this machine is going to scream!

If I recall correctly, 8800 Ultra in SLI is pretty much the best you can get. So, you'll probably be able to max-out Oblivion and even add some graphics enhancement pack.

And for frames, I can't be sure but I'll go with something around 40-50 or even more with no slowdowns or stuttering. Oblivion is pretty but demands everything from your computer, especially for any outside environments.

Send me a PM if you need some links. Big%20smile

Please accept my apologies for any grammar errors. English is not my first language and I'm currently learning it.

Awesome system.

My personal preferences aside, I still would question the physics card.  There are just a handful of games that support it, and as new multi-threaded games come out, having a quad core chip will serve the same function.

Here's an article comparing gaming in XP and Vista - Oblivion is specifically tested.

Couldn't find any specs of the tested system on that blog - are they somewhere glaringly obvious?

Oblivion is what I'm going to be mostly playing on the new system I'm receiving (which, incidentally, I ordered with Vista64).

The document below, from Tweakguides, is a pretty impressively-compiled resource on getting the most out of Oblivion, performance-wise. I fully expect to even be able to install some graphical upgrades like Qarl's Textures and do some LOD tweaking on my new rig, and you should be able to as well..

Chris

PS: This guy lists a collection of visual mods he installed on his game, and on the second page of the thread, there are some pretty amazing screenshots of his modded Oblivion - I've never seen anything look that good:
