For the first time, I can finally answer "can it run Crysis?" with a resounding yes. I ran Crysis Warhead on my new ODE 3 with 570 SLI, and it was getting ~70fps on enthusiast mode with 4xAA. Looks amazing.

Battlefield: Bad Company 2 is getting 120fps @ 4xMSAA. Full 60fps in 3D mode. 120fps on a 120hz display == super low lag.

Awesome.

Yeah I installed Metro on my old machine to try out the 3D vision. But even within the first 5 minutes, I was turned off by the less-than-polished game play mechanics. Now I'm wondering if it's worth blowing another 8GB of the 50GB I have left on my SSD for Metro.

Amazingly enough, the best 3D vision for me so far is Left 4 Dead 2. The zombie blood sprays all over the screen, with great depth from the rest of the action. And the zombies keep rushing you, which creates a huge contrast of depth. That game is still my favorite, even with its low graphics requirements.

Battlefield: BC2 also has some great 3D scenes (eg. walking through tall reeds coming up against Japanese armor at start of game), but I find with a game like that I need to be in 120fps non-3D mode to get the best reaction, lowest latency response.

Luckily, the ODE allows me both options.

copen, This may sound like a dumb question but I am oldConfused%20Wink LOL.When playing BF2 you talk about 3D. Having the ODE3 to play in 3D is there anything you do setting up the computer or is it in the game. I know when I bring up nvidia controp panel I see it has 3D. Just wondering about it.Confused

You need a monitor that can do 3d.

Right, I'm talking about stereoscopic 3d, which requires rendering two frames for every normal game frame. You need a 3D monitor and nvidia glasses and IR emitter. Or you can buy the Acer 27" NH27H display with a built-in emitter.

i was thinking of going 3d and for what it is its just not supported well enough to be viable. Just another add on to make all this graphical power useful when we havnt seen anything "next gen" just yet.(bf3 i think is going to be the first of this breed)

I waited until just 3 days ago to go 3D. I can tell you that:

1. For hard-core FPS, it has too much lag.
2. The 120hz display required makes hard-core FPS in 2D amazingly smooth. Worth the price of 3D HW on its own. However, the 120hz displays are expensive, and have generally poor image quality compared to IPS. I notice it big time.
3. Mostly, the 3D is kind of gimmicky for games that don't properly support it. Like Crysis 2. No way you want 3D on in that game. But like I said earlier, it's great for L4D2, and BF:BC2 as well. But often I have to switch out of 3D on BF b/c you need zero-lag for that game. I actually play L4D2 in 3D 100% of the time, and it's amazing.

So I recommend if you're on the fence, get the 120hz display and enjoy the 120fps rates. Then if you can maybe borrow the nvidia 3d glasses/emitter, you can try 3D to see if that's worth it.

I don't see how 3D can go mainstream, though, b/c it requires twice the horsepower. I tried it on my old system with a GTX260, and the frame rates were just too poor on games like BF or Metro. But on the ODE SLI, you often get the full 60fps in 3D.
