Topic: ODE 2 vs custom configPosted: 24 Jul 2011 at 3:12am |

Hi everyone, was wondering if I could get some config advice. I'm looking to buy a gaming computer that will be able to play the current games (i.e. starcraft 2, crysis, CoD Black Ops, etc) at the highest settings but also will be able to handle games next year (specifically modern warfare 3 or star wars the old republic) at relatively high settings. My budget is $1500-$2000 (desktop only, no monitor required).
I'm interested in the ODE 2 right now, mainly because it has the SSD (I spend a lot of time on the computer also websurfing/etc). However, I was wondering how the SLI with 2 GTX 560 card of the ODE 2 would compare to getting a config with 1 GTX 570 instead. Not feeling the ODE 1 since it's missing the SSD. I'm hesitant to get the ODE 2 with 2x GTX560 instead of a GTX 570 in regards to future considerations. In your opinion, which investment would be better in the long run? Although I would love to get the ODE 3 and have it solve all my problems, it is currently out of my budget. =( Any advice regarding the ODE 2 config and how it compares is greatly appreciated! |

For that res and future performance you gonna want sli 570.
sli 560 is better then single 570, but for games like bf3, at your res, sli 560 is not gonna do great with highest settings and high aa, but if you turn down teh settings you would be ok. |

You could always switch to the ODE3. It's a bit pricier, but swaps the 2xGTX 560 for 2xGTX 570.

to change the ode builds you have to pay $50 for each part and then also add the extra cost of the part.
in short to change gpus on ode its probably gonna cost more then ode 3 or endup the same but you will have lesser cpu cooler and ssd. Its better if he saved up more and just went for the ode 3 |

yeah I've been playing with configs and been getting around ODE 3 prices. Was just curious if its better to save up some more for ODE 3 or go with ODE 2 and start gaming now and still be safe for 2-3 more years. Thanks for the input. Will keep seeing what configs I get.

We can't beat ode 3 price with custom config.
with games like bf3 and other newer more demanding games like it, sli 560 will not do great in a year or so. I can't do a good sli 570 custom and keep around the ode 3 price. |

Any suggestions for something similar to an ODE 3 but NON-SLI...basically just 1x 570, SSD+1HD, preferably i7-2600k (no bluray needed, case does not have to be corsair 600T, anything with good airflow). Really appreciate your advice =)

Just to be clear, for your res I highly recommend going sli 570 or single 570 with option to go sli.
however if one 570 is all you want then check out ode 1, ssd and etc you can add later, custom config can't beat ode prices, specially with a good ssd. |
